Fall foliage near Washinton DC
We'll be visiting Washington DC next weekend. Since my kids (11+14) have grown up in Central America they have never seen the fall foliage. Where can we go see the foliage in the vicinity of Washington? How about the Potomac river cruise to Mount Vernon? We don't have a rental car.

If you want to see Fall Foliage- you will need a car and drive down towards the Charlottesville Va area-- that is the mountains...
I don't know if Va Hunt Country will have as many leaves turning yet...If they do, the Middleburg or Leesburg area is only about 1 hr from DC But you will need a car.. |
If you don't have a car, I you could do the river cruise to Mount Vernon, but I think it might be a few weeks too early for the Fall foilage -- more like the end of October. ((b))

The leaves have not begun to change color yet at the northern end of the Shenandoah Valley.

We're just starting to get a tiny bit of color here so I think you'll be a bit premature. If you had a car you could head north up I270 toward Thurmont (the Cactoctin Mts and camp David area) as it is a little more northern and mountainous than most of the DC area. Anything south of here will still be green I believe.
Hope you enjoy your visit. |
