Fall camping location help please
Traveling from Stromsberg Nebraska late Sept early Oct. We are limited on time and would like to keep the travel day to 8 hours or less. Where can we camp with facilities and enjoy fall foliage, scenic views, picturesque small towns, history, natural sites? Thanks in advance for advice! |
From Stromsberg to where????? What roads ?? By late Sep, early Oct the fall leaves in the high country will be gone. And there will be potential for snow at that time. You might check your local library for a Colorado guide book or buy one on-line. Colorado is big state with lots of options. Stromsberg is east of G Island and a solid 7 to 8 hours just to get to Denver. Estes Park might be just within your eight hour range. A little clarity regarding your travel plans would be helpful if you want a better answer.

Also what type of camping--hookups for RV? Tent?

I love tent camping at Moraine Park Campground in Rocky Mountain National Park and it would fit your requirement for scenic views and 8 hour drive time. The campground has flush toilets but I'm not sure when they're shut down for the winter. The latest I've camped there is mid-September but I'm a wimpy camper. I've hiked there in mid-October and even though the leaves had fallen off the trees, it was still beautiful and the paths were covered with gold aspen leaves. If Trail Ridge Road is open you can drive to picturesque Grand Lake and have lunch at the lodge overlooking the lake. Trail Ridge Road usually stays open until late October but does close for bad weather so you'll need to check for updates.
