can't access. Can you cut and paste? Interestec to see what this says. Hope it discourages counterfeits.

Sorry I do not know how to cut and paste! (Embarassing but true) But you can read it on www.nytimes.com. It is about the wholesale district in the west 30s..interesting. No place I would llike to hang around!

Excellent article!

Sanibella, I don't think Fodors allows cut and paste because of the copyright infringement.

Found it, thanks! Great article. Thanks for sharing it.

This article interested me because I just got back from a trip to NYC. I saw all sorts of men with handbags along the streets (not in that area though) and I always wonder are they fakes, stolen, or what? I stopped to look at a Coach bag and it looked like the real thing to me. The lining on the inside looked great and everything. I was tempted but ended up not buying it.

If you can buy it on the street, it's a fake.

Apparently, buying in a store is no guarantee of authenticity.

Coach has filed suit against Target , alleging that Target has been selling counterfeit Coach bags.

Anything sold on the street is worth exactly what you pay for it - if that much. (My rule of thumb s that if you pay $25 it's worth $15.

There are no real name brands available at that kind of discount. (Most of these upscale shops either sell out or have remainder stores at some of the upscale discount malls. So you can get a coach bag at 50% off there - but nowhere for $25.)

I got a kick out of the lady who stated that she came all the way from Michigan to buy socks and underwear. Come on. You can get socks and underwear dirt cheap at any TJ Maxx, Sam's Club, or Marshall's in Michigan. This woman was obviously looking to buy counterfeit goods to take back to Michigan to sell for a profit.

How many ladies on here, if they saw a nice purse for sale on the street, for a reasonable price, would buy it?

I am in the mood for a new purse, and could not fathom spending more than 50 bucks on one...so, fake is ok for me. :)

Obviously enough to keep these guys in business. The people who buy fake Rolex watches, Coach bags, etc., always amaze me. If the merchandise was worth what they are told it is by the street vendor, why would they think that person would be selling the stuff so cheap?
