FAIRMONT ORCHID GOLD FLOOR- WORTH IT?
 
we leave next tues for 10 nights at the fairmont.. i got a prettygood deal on a mountain view room.. but, now i hear they have this Gold Flr.. upgraded rooms, complimentary bfast, afternoon appetizers, personal concierge.
anyone stay on a gold flr? is it worth the extra 200/night??

'Worth it' questions are subjective and hard to answer. Here's a list of what that $200/night gets you:

At least IMO there's nothing on that list that is worth an extra $50/night, let alone $200. The way the Orchid is built, very few rooms -- only the end units on each building -- have a head-on ocean view. All the rest have a side view. Among the exceptions are the Presidential Suite (which BTW is jaw dropping) and the Executive Suites. But I don't think that $200/night will get you into either of those categories.

One other note.. All but three of the things on the Gold Floor list are included at N/C at other Kohala resorts (e.g. the Hapuna Beach Prince), including the things most people would actually use (free local calls, coffee service etc).
