Fair Oaks/Rancho Cordova
I am trying to plan a vacation for my parents. They are flying to Sacramento to visit relatives in Fair Oaks. I could not find any hotels in Fair Oaks - the closest I seem to come is Rancho Cordova. So, I was considering booking them a stay at the Courtyard Sacramento Rancho Cordova.
First of all, is Rancho Cordova pretty close to Fair Oaks? Is there a decent hotel closer or in Fair Oaks I should know about? Thanks for ANY input! :) Kris |
There's a Marriott right at Sunrise and highway 50. Just up sunrise blvd and over the bride is Fair Oaks. At the courtyard you would also have to use sunrise blvd to get to Fair Oaks. True that Rancho is near Fair Oaks but it depends on if the courtyard is near Zinfandel or Sunrise. If it's at Zinfandel your parents would use highway 50 to Sunrise to get to Fair Oaks. That particular area is used by business travelers doing business with the large companies located along the 50 corridor. Might be noisy due to freeway traffic.

I personally wouldn't stay in Rancho. The hotels are along the VERY congested hwy 50 corridor and is not a particularly nice area -- not dangerous otr anything - but just the typical freeway-side hotels.
I'd stay in Folsom at the Hilton Garden Inn or Residence Inn, or better yet the Lake Natoma Inn or the Old Town Inn B&B. These last two are in/near the historic gold rush era Sutter Street district with great shopping, restaurants, and Lake Natoma. Then they can easily get to Fair Oaks going via Greenback Lane and Madison Avenue w/o having to drive on hwy 50 at all. Folsom would be a lot more enjoyable neighborhood. |
Kris, I work in the area you are asking about so I have been taking note of the area accomodations. Along 50 where the Courtyard you refer to is located there are 6 motels. The Courtyard is the first you see before you exit Zinfandel and faces 50 so has the potential to be loud with traffic noise. Right next to the Courtyard going east is the Fairfield Inn and then Extended stay which faces the off ramp so it gets both traffic noise and the overpass noise. I imagine a weekday stay here may be noisy. On the other side of Zinfadel but still facing 50 is a just opened Wingate and next to that is Hampton Inn. Furthest back and protected from the highway is Amerisuites, also brand new. Access to Fair Oaks from any of these places would be a trip east on 50 to Sunrise (the next exit) and then over the river. 50 has easy access from any of these motels via Zinfandel. There would be no way your parents could get lost getting to 50 and then Sunrise.
Off Sunrise there is the former Sheraton now Marriott, an old Holiday Inn and a couple or 3 of the same type of motels as those located at Zinfandel. Depends on how much you want to spend. |
Thank you all for your comments! My mom and I are checking out our options right now...Thank you all very much!

We've stayed at the AmeriSuites off Zinfandel in Rancho Cordova several times. The Courtyard is basically across the street. The area is a bunch of hotels right off the freeway close to business parks as everybody has said. They are fine for relatively cheap lodging if you are looking for a place to sleep that is convinient to the freeway. The hotels in this area are not located within walking distance of anything so as long as you are planning to drive everywhere, it's fine. We have family in the Sac area and have found this location to be good for when we visit family - we don't spend a lot of time at the hotel, but we have it to go back to for sleeping and if we need a break.
