help with flight rebooking.....

In Aug. I was unable to use a reservation due to illness. I called Northwest to say I would not be traveling;they said there would be a $50charge to rebook within 90 days.

When I tried to rebook, they said I indicated I flew the departure leg and for that reason I will be charged for a new ticket.

It is less than $200 loss but I am annoyed because I never said I flew nor did I fly but the agent said I did.....any help? Perhaps the earlier agent entered my response incorrectly?

Thanks for any suggestions.

In this order...

Call back. Politely try again. Demand to be taken care of. Speak to a manager. Contact your credit card company.

Call them again. Speak to a manager if you get the same response this time. There should be a record of whether or not you flew the first leg - it shouldn't be based on whether or not you said you did.

I would suggest going to a Northwest ticket office WITH your ticket in hand to prove you did not take the first flight.

That will solve the problem.

Good luck.

what 'ticket in hand'? Everything is e-ticket these days.

The electronic ticket record shows the status; in other words, if you checked in, and flew a segment, that segment will show as used. If you didn't check in, it will show as open. The electronic ticket record is not based on what you tell a reservation agent over the phone; rather, it is based on whether you flew or not.

Definitely keep at it with Northwest over the phone. If you can't get an answer, or don't get the one you need, ask for a supervisor, or hang up and call again. It's amazing the different answers you'll get from different agents, in my experience. Some are soooo much more helpful than others. Luck of the draw.
