facilities in South rim and bryce lodgings

Do national park service lodgings have basic facilities ie kettle/coffee maker or anything more sophisticated like a toaster?. I have read suggestions to get up early grab a coffee from the restaurant and walk to the rim to see the sunrise. Being frugal in nature and thinking of 12 days paying for all hot beverages makes me break out in a sweat. We brits like nothing better than 'a nice cup of tea' at regular intervals.

also forgot to say do they have a fridge in the room?

Hi Planning,

No, Natl Park lodges usually do not have anything but bed and bath. Usually don't even have a phone or TV. Certainly not any other amenities.

If you do want these things, you will want to look for a hotel or condo. Sometimes "cabins" will have more, but be sure to ask in advance exactly what you are getting in the facility.

You may want to pick up a small appliance to boil water for your tea.

The North section rooms at Maswick lodge at GC have small refrigerators and coffee makers (water heaters). No toaster or microwave. You need to make reservations as soon as possible. The place is filling up very fast for the summer. Don't wait until the last minute or you will be staying an hour away. www.nps.gov.

Yavapai has coffee pots.

thanks for info. I picked my screen name as I am trying to make a three week holiday last 18 months and I am asking lots of question in this planning stage as we are not going till Sept 08. We could cope with a travel kettle as long as there is an electric socket. TV and phone we can cope without, tea on the other hand is more a matter of life and death! i have tried emailing xanterra a couple of times but haven't had any reply. When time comes to book I will phone them but wanted as much inf as possible beforehand

The El Tovar at the Grand CAnyon has complimentary tea and coffee on their second floor lounge. They have an empty refrigerator in the room.

Ah, sounds like the GC is getting more tourist oriented, LOL.

Planning, I understand your need for tea. As for me, the one absolute travel necessity is a corkscrew!

Xanterra's websites for the 2 locations have this info for each of the lodging options at the parks.

Looks like there are 3 suites and 1 studio at Bryce Canyon that have a coffee maker.

There's more variety among the various lodges at Grand Canyon.
