Fabulous Restaurants in San Francisco
We are five seniors travelling and will be in San Francisco for three nights. I would love some suggestions for restaurants with fabulous views. If they were not too expensive, that would be even better. We will be there in late September for two nights, and back for one night before three of us fly back to Australia.
Would love to hear some recommendations! Susan. |
A lot of people love The Slanted Door, at the Ferry Bldg. #3 overlooking the bay. 415-861-8032.
Call in advance for reservations. We wanted to go but didn't have reservations. :( |
San Francisco is full of fabulous restaurants. The view is harder to find when you are talking dining.
Greens has good views and good food. http://www.greensrestaurant.com/ We liked a little restaurant near Union Square, called Fino. No view whatsoever, but cozy and great food and service. It's not on the 'beaten path', but you do need a reservation. http://finoristorante.com/ |
There are so many options - what do you consider 'not too expensive'?
|
"View" and "not too expensive" can be pretty much mutually exclusive in SF.
Have a drink at sunset/night at Top of The Mark. Won't cost a fortune [well, not as much as dinner] and the views are great. http://www.intercontinentalmarkhopki...-the-mark.aspx |
I am just guessing that the Slanted Door might be a little pricey for these gals.
I'd screw the budget and go for the full-on tourist/oceanview experience and go to the Cliff House. |
Hmmm... /:)
|
There is a view from the Cliff House, but that's not a place I'd recommend to anyone.
For a lovely view and view trip, I would suggest you take the ferry to Sausalito, and have lunch at the Spinnaker. One of the nicest views of the Bay you can find. http://www.thespinnaker.com/ |
Thanks! I'm very excited with these recommendations. Janisj Im not sure how to answer this. We know SFO is expensive and often your budget can go out the window when faced with a fabulous option. Would look at everything but try for something not too horribly expensive :)
Thanks for The Mark suggestion. We will do that! Also putting Spinnaker on our itinerary and Fino. Thanks also for the links to the other restaurants. We will check them all out. |
you're still not getting the message that "expensive" to one person is not expensive to another. If you can give an idea of your price range we won't waste out time giving you suggestions you can't use.
And the new Cliff House restaurant is LOVELY with excellent food and great views so you can see there are disagreements even among those who are familiar with the area. |
To give you an idea The Slanted Door is probably as expensive as we would like to go. And I would like to give a range of options to my travelling companions.
|
Then I would consider Hogg Island Oysters (all sea food) also at the Ferry Bldg. We loved the food and the view looking out over the SF Bay is nice. The prices are reasonable. Also it is very popular so call for reservations if they take them.

Leatherneck Steakhouse is on the 12th floor of the Marine's Memorial Club on Sutter @ Mason (Union Sq area - downtown). The steaks are well prepared, the prices aren't bad and there is a very nice view of a financial district bldgs w/ the bay in the background. It's an "old-school" type of place.
|
I second the suggestion for the Spinnaker. The view is wonderful.
|
Try and get one on the north side of the Bay Bridge so you can see the light show after sunset. Awesome.
Pier 23?? |
The patio at Perry's on Embarcadero if the weather is good.
