Extended working/vacation in LA
My husband and I will be spending 3 months in LA in early 2008. Does anyone know of a good place to stay for such a length of time? Of course we would need something more akin to an apartment than to a hotel room. We hope to keep the cost to ~$3000/month.
PS to NeoPatrick--we are in contact with the place you mentioned where you stayed for 2 weeks. |
We can be more helpful if we know in which part of L.A. you will be working. That way we will not suggest areas that will make your 3 month stay a commuting nightmare. Also any other likes/dislikes? Near the ocean? Walking distance to restaurants, shops, etc?

Oakwood Apartments comes to mind. They have different lengths of rental, and you can rent furnished or unfurnished. Their website is: Oakwood.com. They have apt's all over the southland, depedning on where you want to live.

Thanks!! We want to stay on West side even tho it will be somewhat of a commuting nightmare for Mr. SW....Westwood, Century City, or Beverly Hills would all be good. Since I will not be working and we will rent just one car, I would like to be near a Big Blue busline and possibly within walking distance of some commercial areas. While we would like Santa Monica, our son who lives in LA, says that getting on the 10 going east there in the AM would be just too much of the nightmare to which you refer...the places I menitoned above, will still be long, but slightly less nightmarish!! :)

Have you considered the Manhattan Beach area? I ask because the eastbound commute on the 105 freeway is not quite as miserable as the 10. I know people here on business that have stayed at The Residence Inn on Sepulveda for extended periods of time. It is in a very safe area, close to shops, etc. I'm not quite sure about bus lines there, though it's a very short bike ride to the beach. :) It is also not far from the Green Line MTA station which could link you up with the other light rail transport in LA.

Thanks, lvk and Denice--oakwood is on my "to do" list and altho it would be nice to be near the beach, the Manhattan Beach locale is probably too long of a commute for Mr. SW who has to drive all the way into somewhere near--or even east of, not exactly sure--downtown LA. Also, that extended stay place would be good for a week or two but seemed a little small for 3 months. But I really appreciate the input and would love to hear from anyone else who may have done something like we are planning...
