Explosion in San Francisco??

My co-worker heard on the radio there was an explosion on Kearny. Didn't feel nor heard anything on Montgomery @ Sacramento, only firetracks' sirens.

The only written information we were able to find was KCBS website, no details, not even location.

F2,
Heard it may have been an underground PacGasElec gas line or electrical vault.

Looks like it was right next to one of our fave SF hotels, Galleria Park.
Good news, doesn't sound like any major injuries at this time. [-o<

Better news is we're staying at a different hotel this weekend about 5 blocks away. :)>-

What time does Cafe Faina open on Monday? GTG in your kitchen??

TripleSecDelay Aug 19th, 2005 11:27 AM

Underground transformer blew out.
No scary things going on here.

jlm_mi Aug 19th, 2005 11:32 AM

TSD - Though the cause is likely an accident, it's still very scary! Thankfully it doesn't sound like anyone was killed.

There is an article on CNN now. 4th explosion in probably 10 years that I know of. All 4 times PG&E fault.

Kal, my kitchen is like French Laundry - 365 days reservations only ((T))

I work till 5. Meet you at the explosion site, LOL

CNN is reporting one woman taken to hospital, they have been known to be wrong though.

:-/

LoveItaly Aug 19th, 2005 12:44 PM

Just read about this explosion on SFGate. The poor woman who happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. I am sure everyone at first thought it was a bomb. A safe weekend to all. And Kal, you and Mrs. Kal have a wonderful SF weekend!

FainaAgain Aug 19th, 2005 12:56 PM

On one of the websites they said a 41-year-old woman was taken to a hospital with head and neck injuries, she's in critical condition.

The picture on SFgate looks awful. Smoke and all that.

Buses should be running the normal routes again.

Just hearing the sirens was scary!

L'Italy,
I'm sure Mona Lisa and I will have a great time Sunday. ;)

I'll honk and wave while driving thru "Onionville".

In the meantime, let's all keep a good thought for the gal in the SF Hospital.

I've been thru a lot of the underground vault areas of the buildings in SF. It's like when you don't want to see how sausages or hot dogs are made.

Yeah...good ol' PG&E. Now I heard a lot of people w/o power SOMA area.

LoveItaly Aug 19th, 2005 01:25 PM

Hey Kal, since you will be at the Mona Lisa Sunday night...a favor please! If Rhiannon is there please tell her my daughter (you know her name) has not called because they were in Rome due to my SIL family problems etc. She has been thinking of Rhiannon and will get in touch with her soon. Thanks!

And enjoy every bite! I will be listening for the honk!!

Kal Aug 19th, 2005 02:01 PM

L'Italy,
If I can remember by then.((H))

FainaAgain Aug 19th, 2005 02:11 PM

LoveItaly, I know Kal has a cell phone, you can call him any time :)

Gpaul Aug 19th, 2005 02:13 PM

Hope all you people living there are OK, and all the best.

Everything's o.k., the city is up and running normally with the exception of some blocks of Kearny and Grant being closed to traffic for now. Lots of media vehicles in the area.

Went to Sephora during a late lunch, observed the long line for cable cars at Powell and Market, hopped on an underground Metro on my way back. Now that's normal. All is well.
