Experts-sonoma/napa wineries-my list-need help
I need to narrow down my list of wineries to visit.
We will be there most of the day on Frid. Oct. 30th and all day on Sat. We are renting a limo for sat. but driving ourselves on Fri. We are coming in from SF and thought we would stop on our way in. We are staying in Sonoma at the Ledson Hotel.
We need to get a plan of some sort and need your expert help. Here is the list of wineries I think we would like, we like Riesling, so most of these I think have a Riesling and I also would like to visit the must see wineries, so some are ones others have recommended. I know there is no way to do them all so I need to know the best ones for us and also the best plan to see them. Do we go to both Sonoma and Napa in one day or what? etc...
Mondavi
Sterling
V. Sattui
Coppola
Joseph Phelps
Stag's Leap
Artesa
Beringer
Freemark Abbey
Frog's Leap
Grgich Hills
Koves-Newlen
Viansa
Benziger
St. Francis
Chateau St. Jean
Blackstone
Sebastiani
Ravenswood
Kenwood
Ledson
Gundlach-Bunschow? sp.
Arrowood
Geyser Peak
Adler Fels
Kunde
Kendall-Jackson-Healdsburg
Smith-Madrone
Trefethen
Stony Hill
St. Supery

I haven't been to all of the wineries on your list, but of the ones I have been to, I liked Joseph Phelps the best.
I also really like St. Clement (love that Oroppas) and Shafer.
The Opus winery is fun, but their tasting is quite expensive.
The Beringer tour is fun also, but I would pay extra to go upstairs to the other tasting room. The wines that are included in the tour are not very good.

Sterling is terrific because of the gondola. When I went, Prince Charles had been the week before (this was the 1970s) and on the inside of the gondola someone had scratched "Charles was here". Cute.
The wine's not the best but Christian Brothers has a great old stone front on the outside gate.

Freemark Abby makes a very nice Riesling and it is a rather small place, so you can taste here rather quickly.
Blackstone is also small, we buy their wines at Costco, but the Merlot Reserve has won many awards. I ordered some of this for my DH for Christmas last year. The winery is cozy and the owners are very friendly and accomodating. ***kim***
