EXPERIENCES WITH Hyatt Vacation Resort, Key West
My husband just informed me that in February we are spending two nights at Key West Hyatt Vacation Resort with friends of our who have a time share there.

The rate is $49 at the peak Feb. recess season. What are the does and don't when we are taking this tour with the Hyatt. I am sure the pressure is there.

Be very careful, once they get their hands on you the own you or they will make you think you are the biggest shmuck in the world.

Not sure which one you are staying at but the Hyatt Vacation Club Sunset Harbor Resort is great. We have owned there since 1996 & have enjoyed the pleasure of owning a 2/3 townhouse there & the closeness of the property to Old Town & right on the Gulf with the most beautiful sunsets. If you are staying at the Hyatt Vacation Club Beach House, right as you enter the city limits then you might want to reconsider. I'm not at all familiar with all the salesmen but pressure is not there. I talk to a lot of them as well as play golf with them. The most reason is they don't have to pressure you as the units are being sold. I'm not so sure that the beach house & the new one being built would be in that category. They are building a third Hyatt Vacation Club in Key West but not sure where yet. Tell them you are interested in the Sunset Harbor timeshare only & the $800 you pay for a year in maintenance for a week in Key West, well tell me where you can get a deal like that almost anywhere in Old Town.

Arko - Sounds to good to be true. I am not sure where this place is. I know that there is a Gem Museum close by. I am not sure if it is on the water. I remember from last year (visiting our friend) that there was a pool there and a huge parking garage. It is not a far walk into town either.

Is the high pressure there? I did see tons of sales people on every cornor Is there monthly maintence fees? Is there any reciprocity? I am clueless on this whole thing. Thanx

First thing you should do is to check out www.tug2.net (Timeshare Users Group) and find out as much as possible about timesharing before you go! That really is a must. There are many resales available that will save you many $$$ if you are really tempted to buy a t/s. Secondly, tell them you are NOT interested in buying and stick with your guns, no matter what sort of sob story they give you. We own 3 timeshares and have made many great exchanges, so for us, they are great. There are many places you can buy and not have to pay $800 a year! Please check out the TUG site and learn and read what other timeshare owners have to share.

The new units are over by Marthas and Benehans, next to the airport. Just a FYI.

Of course it is high pressure. They are on every corner there selling to anyone who will listen. They actually have boths setup on Duval Street. I am sure if they were selling that easily they wouldn't need to rent space on Duval just to sell a time share. Go in with a game plan. They always say it will last however long and make them stick to that. Lie if you have to and tell them you have a place to be right afterwards.

There is no monthly fees Samantha only a one time maintenance fee every year. The place you might be talking about is the Hilton Resort who has the big garage & the Hyatt Vacation Club Sunset Harbor is right next door, 200 Sunset Lane. Its between the Hilton & Truman Annex complex. I like what Jo Ann said except for the $800. I guess she doesn't understand how much Key West lodging is. The people on every corner (NOT) are the people who try to get you to come to a t/s presentation, they are usually not the salesperson. Like I said deal with the person at the Sunset Harbor place & let them know that you are only inquiring about a timeshare. Just stay away from the people on the corners. If you decide to get a t/s (only at Sunset Harbor because its very close to everything & is located right on the gulf) you will be with Interval International (II) which is very good if you don't want to stay in Key West. Take the recommendation from Jo Ann & got to that website & see how much it really cost for a timeshare at Sunset Harbor. Most people who own there don't sell there t/s because there is nothing that compares to it. The other t/s she is talking about is cheaper than Sunset Harbor, can't argue that. I hope this helps in your decision & clears up some of your questions. The people you are going with should already know this. There is always some high pitch salespeople but you can always say no to this in a second.

Arco...an $800 a year maint. fee is high, plus what you have to pay the developer in the first place. I was only trying to point out that there are places to buy a t/s cheaper if you are really interested in owning a t/s. As owners of 3 t/s our total maint. fees are just a bit over $1000 a year and we get great exchanges with them. And I am very aware of costs in Key West as our daughter has lived there for 25 years. It's gone out of sight down there.
