Experience with Globus or Grand Circle Travel?

Anyone used either of these companies to book a European trip? I'm curious about Globus's 'independent travel' tours. I do want some flexiblity, but, would like help booking air & hotel. tks!

We have been on 4 tours/trips with Grand Circle and are taking their Great Rivers of Europe cruise in July. Obviously we like them, or wouldn't continue traveling with them.

Have you checked out their website @ www.gct.com to see what and where they offer on their trips?

We have been very pleased with the accommodations they have us stay in. The tour directors are with you the complete trip and they are very knowledgeable..i.e. our two Canadian trips we had Canadians and our Mexico trip our TD was Mexican. GC took us to places we would have missed on our own. You learn a lot about the areas you visit and there are quite a few tours included, plus 'optional' tours you pay for and can - or can not go on. Some meals are included, but you have the opportunity to eat 'on your own' and the TD's can help you find the right place for that too. You have several opportunities to explore on your own.

Grand Circle will book your flights, or you can save some money and book your own. We drove to two starting points in the US, and once our daughter used her FF miles to get us to the West coast. Of course, they have the hotels all booked for the whole trip (no hotels on the river cruises, though, because you stay only on the boat.)

We have taken 6 Grand Circle trips to Europe and elsewhere, and been totally satisfied with every one. They put a great emphasis on the local people and culture. The program directors are all local natives and are excellent. What drew us to Grand Circle in the first place was the value comparing apples to apples with other tour operators. Their river boat cruises in Europe are outstanding, and an excellent way to see the countries. This month's Conde Nast Traveller has rated several of their river boats in the top 10 ships in the world.

We have not taken Globus, but have taken Cosmos, which is their budget arm. The itineraries of both Globus and Cosmos are similar and sometimes Globus stays is better hotels. We enjoyed the Globus trip but it was nowhere near the quality of Grand Circle, particularly the guides and cultural feel. The guides in Spain were British and Portuguese.

We would be glad to answer any questions either in this forum or by Email.
