Expedia Vacations - Hawaii
Expedia is quoting a great price to Kauai - 2690/2 people. for seven nights, including airfare, hotel and car from Chicago. This seems to good to be true.

I did a search and found one person (Rita) who posted a good experience booking a Hawaiian vacation with Expedia, does anyone else have any other reports?

M.

My husband and I booked a 9 day trip to the Big Island (leaving 12/26) through expedia for $3100, including airfare from Detroit and hotel for 8 nights. We thought it was a great deal and have had fairly good service from Expedia through all of the changes that have occurred with our flights due to 9/11. We were very surprised at the package deal--and are aware that the hotel is not the best on the island--but airfare alone was going for $1500 a person when we booked this in August.

I can let you know in January when we get back if it was as great of a deal as we think it is going to be!

That's not necessarily too good to be true.
Recent round trip fares from St. Louis have been as low as $450.
Times two that's $900.
Leaves $1790 hotel fee.
Divided by 7 nights is $255 per night.
If you're at the Four Seasons that's a whale of a deal.
At the Embassy Suites I'd say you're not getting something for nothing.

Always check to see where you are i.e..if you are at coconut beach chances are it is a non-swimming beach, you are also about 30 minutes from the best attractions on the island (IMHO Waimea canyon in west 45 minutes, North shore 30 minutes). You will want to be on North Shore or in Poipu in the south. North gets considerable rain after November this is something else to look out for.

I am very reticent about package deals I have lived in both London and Honolulu I always recognize the hotels offered in these deals and they are largely in bad areas or just awkward areas, some times the hotels are run down. You can do the same if you have lived somewhere else check the package deals in your Sunday paper for places you are familiar with, I congratulate you if you are ever impressed.
Booked a Maui trip with Expedia. No problems at all. Be sure to bring a copy of both air & hotel info, however, in case you need to show it.

Take a look at the Joyful Journeys section at www.senior-infosite.com
Read "Hawaii for less" to get a few ideas that may help.

We have been checking on line for discount to Hawaii and CSAA often has cheaper rates. So, make sure to call your local auti association you might find even lower prices, G

Appreciate the input.

We went ahead and booked the trip - will be staying at the Islander. We investigated putting together our own "package" - but since we are teachers and can only go at our school's Spring Break the airfares start at 1100 to 1300.

Am now busy planning things to do during the week that we will be there.

Hi Martha:
I was there for my honeymoon past June. Make sure you do the helicopter ride at Kauai. We did the 60 mins chopper ride with http://www.helicopters-kauai.com/ and it was worth it. They also have the 90mins ones. Make sure you book early, bring enough films or just enjoy the whole experience. I was happy that I brought my digital camera and took about 80+ pix in the air alone. Have fun!!!

David

I love expedia...I use them to book almost all my travels. My fiance and I are going to Maui on Dec. 30 for 6 nights. We are staying at the Maui Marriott and are paying only $1500 TOTAL, including airfare from Chicago.
