Exit glacier vs matanuska

if you had 1 glacier to ice climb on which would it be? we are a family of 6..4 kids ages 10-12...besides the 1.6 mile hike to the climbing area of exit, which would be the most scenic w crevasses , walls, caves etc? thank you, bill

In the past, there has NOT been access direct on Exit Glacier. Sometimes even rangers posted. If you are referring to the Harding glacier, it's about an 8 mile round trip hike, and still no access to the ice??

Where are you getting this Ice Climb information??

I have gone with Mica guides and had an excellent trek. I went on a private 5 hour hike, time flew by. Did not do ice climbing, but is available.

You can get up close to see Exit Glacier, but it's not an ice climb.
Exit Glacier is wonderfully awesome, and I would go, even if you can't climb it.

I've only been to Matanuska but it was fantastic.

One plus for Exit -- as long as you are hiking away from the main area -- is that your chances of seeing wildlife are a little better there than at Matanuska, at least in my experience.

We were hiking up to Harding Icefield along that exit glacier trail. We looked up, early on in the hike, and there was a beautiful black bear standing on the cliff right above us. He turned and disappeared, but popped up again later on in the hike. A highlight of our day!
