Excellent Long Weekend in Annapolis, MD

My husband and I just got back from a long weekend in Annapolis, MD. We went because we thought it would be romantic to see the fire works over the harbor--and it was. If you love small, old cities, with lots of interesting architecture and good walking, consider Annapolis. We stayed on the fringes of the old part of the city, at the Doubletree, in order to save some money. It was adequate. We ate at a brand new restuarant (open only one week), that was FANTASTIC. It is called Hell Point and is right down on the city dock. Really good food, decent prices for a "fine dining" place; excellent service; great ambience. We sat in the top level, inside. It was fabulous for people and sailboat watching!

We self-toured the USNA, which was particulalry interesting because the new Plebe class had just arrived. We also really enjoyed the state house. Beautiful architecture and interesting info--for free!

Annapolis is one of our favorite getaways. Hadn't heard of the new restaurant so thanks for the heads up. How was the traffic after the fireworks? It can be brutal!

It wasn't too bad--we parked in a church parking lot. Took us about 20 minutes to get out and moving.

We ate at a couple good places while in Naptown, but Hell Point was truly the highlight. I had soft shell crabs that were divine! Great, personable wait staff, too!

Agreed on Annapolis. Great older architecture, the US Naval Academy, one of the better US state capitols to see, and plenty of historic houses to tour.

Nice to hear about Hell Point. Restaurants I enjoyed in Annapolis included Carrol's Creek and O'Leary's Seafood immediately across the bridge in Eastport, Chick and Ruth's Delly, and (surprisingly) Galway Bay Irish Restaurant and Pub for crab cakes. Also Annapolis Ice Cream Company.

carolyna - We just returned from Annapolis and we tried Hell's Point. I agree that it is very good. There were some other restaurants we tried and also liked - I'm going to write a quick trip report...
