Excalibur Stories?
Please help! My wife & I reserved room at Excalibur for mid-September because of location. Been seeing more bad than good about this place (run-down, kids running wild, bad food, etc.). But, there is supposedly a convention in town that week so finding reasonable rates on the Strip has not been easy! Should we bite the bullet and find another place, or stay put? P.S. We really don't like screaming kids!!!

Dave,
I've stayed at the Ex and must admit the theme is geared toward families (kids). You surely understand that when conventions are in town, the prices go up! If you don't mind paying the extra $$, definitely book somewhere else (hopefully you can still find a room since there is a convention in town). Needless to say, make sure you book at another hotel first before canceling the Ex. Some hotels are trying to lure the family to this adult's playground (much to my and a whole lot of other's chagrin). "This ain't Disney - leave the kids at home - let the grown folks play!"

Anyway, I can recommend a few hotels in which I have stayed that are a bit pricier than the Ex. But if you want peace of mind (no kids) and peace of sleep - you will take these into consideration:

1. The Rio (slightly off the strip, all-suite hotel, very nice and festive)
2. Monte Carlo (elegant atmosphere)
3. Caesar's Palace (pricey - so no sight of full families w/kids, very classy by way of shops and restaurants)
4. Mirage (grown-up atmosphere, pricey, very classy)

Hope this helps!
Well, Dave, I have read the same things you have read about Excalibur, and I am always surprised because I have stayed there and have not found it run down, have not seen any children runninng wild, and thought the food was excellent. Maybe I am too easy to please! My husband and I are middle-aged and have never been parents, so I would have thought we would notice these unruly children. The hotel does have a theme that would appeal to families, but to be honest, I never noticed an unusual amount of children (I did notice this at Circus, Circus, though). I thought the buffet was fabulous, and I don't like buffets as a rule. Anyway, if you decide not to find another place, or cannot find another place, I would certainly not lose sleep over it. My guess is you will be perfectly satisfied putting the extra money into the slots!
I don't think you should be overly concerned. I have never observed screaming, unruly kids in a casino, certainly never at the Exaclibur. (Remember: the casino is off limits to kids. You can gamble to your heart's content without worrying about that.) In fact, I can hardly recall ever seeing large numbers of kids at all in LV, with the exception of specific kids' areas.

I have stayed at the Ex a couple of times and had no real complaints. It's not a bad place. The rooms are fine. The food, though, leaves a lot to be desired. The Luxor, MGM, and NYNY--all within easy walking distance--have excellent food choices, though, so it shouldn't be a problem.

If you don't want to be around kids, stay off the sub-ground "kids floor"--arcade, midway--at the Ex and away from the pool. You shouldn't have any trouble.

Go have a great time!

Note: those other hotels listed above are all nice, but very expensive. If there's a convention in town, you'll pay through the nose.

You might try the MGM..Last time we went
to Vegas had the same problem. Convention in town and most Hotels on the strip where sky high..MGM saved the day..
But as mentioned above,,The Excalibur
is a fine hotel..Have stayed there, and
have no complaints..

I agree. We did the ex. thing with our kids when they were younger, & it was very pleasant. nothing like circus circus, which IS run-down, with lots of screaming kids. As long as you don't hang out in the arcade area, you won't have much contact with kids. Last time were were passing thru L.V. there was nowhere to stay because of conventions. We ended up at Sam's Town...a little of a drive from the strip, but beautiful rooms & the BEST buffet. Western theme, southwest decor, line dancing, etc. We really enjoyed it & it was actually a refreshing change from the strip.
We have stayed in the Excalibur pre-children days and had no complaints. As in any casino, the kids are not allowed near gambling anyways and it's not like you could hear kids over a noisy casino! At the excalibur the kids area is on a totally different floor. The only problem you may have is a lot of kids around the pool. The rooms were clean and they have security at the elevators. Even though it is owned by Circus Circus people it does not even compare. Circus Circus is definately a madhouse, we do not even go there now that we do have a child! Plus you are centrally located to pop across the street to Cesaers, MGM, and Bally's so if you want to escape you do not have to go far. I would recommend that you keep your reservations.

Good news: We found the rooms at Excalibur quite large and roomy. Bad news: I agree with others, would not recommend eating there. We were not happy with the food.
Thanks very much for all of your input! I must admit I am relieved to be able to stay put! My wife and I love Vegas, and enjoy staying at a different place each time, but we were beginning to worry. Thank you for putting things in perspective and providing us with some relativity!!!

Dave,
My husband and I have stayed at the Ex several times in the past few years while in LV. We are a middle-age couple, and we must say we have enjoyed it every time!!!
It does not have one of the best buffets in town, however the rooms are very clean and spacious. Our recommendation is when you check in ask the desk clerk for a room with a view so maybe you can overlook the strip and the airport. Have a Great time and Good Luck!!!

Well, Dave, your wife wants to stay at the Monte Carlo and I think from my experience in Vegas that would be a better choice. Especially since you got great rates. Hope this helps...

We were in Vegas in August had a great time. Excalibur looked fine to me. When in Vegas who stays in there room? I think I slept and showered and away I went, cant go wrong with the location, lots of hotels with ajoining walkways. We took our 13 year old and we had a blast. By the way he is not an unruly sort, and neither were any of the other kids we saw and we saw a lot because its a great place to bring them lots to do and see actually I've been to disney and Vegas is better.
