Excalibur, MGM or Luxor?

I realize these hotels are quite different from each other. However, I am going in March during Spring Break with some girlfriends so prices are relatively expensive for LV. I think that the MGM looks the nicest of the three but can save quite a bit of money for the location by staying at the Ex... I have heard mixed reviews about both. Please HELP!

MGM, definitely. Do not stay at Excalibur unless you like dingy. Its really smokey, full of white trash with their kids running wild, stained carpet, stale smell... you get the picture. Luxor is a step up, but I would never stay there again, either. For lower prices, try to book closer to the time you are leaving. The prices always go down near the dates because the rooms do not sell out. You may also find some better hotels become cheap enough to be in your price range.

Hello,

I actually stayed at the EX Caliber in March, It was not the fanciest but you are never in your hotel room, your always on the go in Vegas, also we asked for a non smoking room,, and the room really did not smell of smoke. I also saw the MGM Grand, its so nice, the rooms are great. So I guess whatever makes you feel the most comfortable.

Excalibur is an unqualified dump.
I challenge anyone to name a worse hotel in LV built in the last 10 years.

Beware of the "Emerald" tower rooms at the MGM. They are VERY small, no way that you could fit more than 3 in the room.

I think the MGM is the best of the 3, although I also liked the Luxor. The Excalibur was a big disappointment--it looks kind of nice from the outside, but on the inside it is very noisy, dirty, and lots of little kids running around (there's a reason it's cheaper than the other two). However, if money is a big consideration and you just need a place to lay your head while partying elsewhere on the Strip, then I suggest you choose the Excalibur. (You may, however, be able to find a hotel closer to the action for about the same price, particularly if you choose one a block or two off the Strip).

Definately the EX is overun with tons of families and very very crowded. Go to the MGM and pay the extra. We just got back for lv and the Venetian is tops!!!!!

I am also going over Spring Break this March, and I was looking for a cheap hotel on the strip. I went to www.800govegas.com and got the Luxor for $129 on Saturday and $79 on weekdays.

There is no WAY I would stay at the Excalibur. Whenever I go into that place, it is swarming with kids.

I had some friends who stayed at the MGM and they said that the service wasn't the best and that it was just too big for them.

Good Luck!
Sue

MGM is the best of the three. Springbreak??? You are prob not going to be in your room much anyway...get the cheapest room, spend all day at the Hard Rock then go crash at the Excalibur.

NO DO NOT STAY AT EX! It made us sick at the buffet and the stench is still just awful. Tons of kids running everywhere simply gross.

If you chose MGM, which of the 3, I would recommend, reserve in the Grand Tower only. Do not take a room in the Emerald Tower. As another respondent pointed out, the Grand rooms are large - some of the largest in LV short of a suite - while the Emerald rooms are referbished Holiday Inn rooms. (Grand rooms will cost more) (You can sleep four in a single in the Towers with little problem) (Note too, that MGM has a heated pool, and in March you just might get a couple days of pretty good weather, if that is of any importance to you) Luxor was not discussed much, but I found the tower rooms to be very pleasant, (more so than the Pyramid rooms) the facility itself intreguing and overall a good experience. Other than an occasional respit from the wind by walking through Excalibur and it's Krispy Kreme bakery, I found little redeeming qualities. I would agree with the other posters: cleary inferior to the other two.. But, hey, if cost is your main factor, chase tomorrow each night, and catch it at the Excal!

The MGM Really has a good location with the monorail that runs down to Bally's so it is a little more convenient. I have never stayed at MGM but everytime I have been in there the Casino seems nice and "Studio 54" seems like the place to be.

The Luxor is nice. I did stay in one of the tower rooms and it would be fine for more than 2 people, but 4 might be crowded. The bathroom was very large with a roman tub and separate shower.

Trust the other posters when they say the Ex is not that great. Of all the hotels that I have seen in LV that is one that I have never wanted to stay in.

Hope you have fun!!

Excalibur is a dump. MGM is the largest hotel which can be a problem w/long walks from the rooms to the casino. I stayed at the Luxor and found the room very nice for the price. Between the 3 I would stay at the Luxor. Keep in mind these 3 hotels are at the far southern end of the strip so be ready to do some walking.

Look the Ex is an absolute dump, but if you want to save a ton of money for gambling, dining and shows, consider it. Las Vegas is no longer cheap. The shows and the good restaurants are expensive.

If you're young, you are not going to be spending much time in your room anyway. We paid $39 per night after 9/11. It was clean but sooo dreary. Your call.

The MGM is really nice but so much more money. Luxor might work as a good compromise.
