I agree. It's pretty bad, not worth any discount.

It is awesome unless cheesy themed carpet/walls/wallpaper/ceilings not only in the casino but also in your room bother you. I remember when this place first opened and I was awed by the facade and sheer size. The Dead were in town and we were there trying to get some free drinks b/c we were staying next door at the Hacienda (ugh?!) and the casino kept paging Jerry Garcia over, and over, and over, and over again. Later one of my friends stayed there and we decided that free alcohol and the decor in the rooms just do not mix.

For the same price, the Luxor right across the street is classier, cleaner, and more sedate.

terrible. too many kids

We had a family vacation there last summer, and some of the family stayed there. Personally, I found it to be very LOUD, and it wasn't nearly as nice as the Monte Carlo (where I stayed). The rooms seemed in need of a renovation, and the decor just got really goofy after a while.

It's nothing to write home about. Wouldn't recommend it since there are many nicer places. It does have some fun attractions for kids, but the rooms are just ok. The entire place is loud and smokey - why I don't care for Vegas in general. If they got a good deal on Excal. rooms and don't want to spend more, then they'll be alright. They just shouldn't expect luxury. Our room was worn, and the smokey smell penetrates every inch of that place. But it's not the worst they could do I'm sure.

It couldn't be worse than "Circus, Circus," if that makes you feel any better, sunnydelite.

it is deserving only of a wrecking ball.

If cleanliness is a priority, this may not be a good fit. But it's been several years since I stayed there--for one night--so perhaps things have improved. I also found the casino to be poorly ventilated and sort of grungy. Hope it works out.
