EWR to Amtrak station near EWR

I'll be arriving from Europe into EWR and need to get to the Amtrak station. Is there a bus? How long should I allow from exiting the plane to arriving at the Amtrak station?

The AirTrain at EWR connects to Amtrak. The cost is $5.50.

Where are you going on Amtrak? Are you sure you need that versus regular NJ Transit?

For the airport you take the Airtrain to Newark Penn Station - where you get Amtrak and NJ transit trains.

How long to allow depends on when you arrive and how many other international flights land at the same time, If you are a US citizen or not, if you have checked luggage versus carry-on only.

Also the later in the day the more likely the flight into EWR will arrive late.

I would allow at least 2 hours from wheels down to getting on an Amtrak train.

[P.S. It is very easy to, we did it from Manhattan to EWR.]

"For the airport you take the Airtrain to Newark Penn Station - where you get Amtrak and NJ transit trains."

Not quite correct.

From Newark Liberty Airport, you take the AirTrain to the end of the line, Newark Liberty Airport Train Station. Many (but not all) Northeast Regional Amtrak trains stop at this station, so it can be a good spot to pick up an Amtrak train headed south to Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington, DC and beyond. Check schedules carefully, since many southbound trains (including some Northeast Regional and all Acela) do not stop there—You may have to travel one stop to Newark Penn Station via New Jersey Transit to catch the next train south.

If you are headed to parts of New Jersey, a New Jersey Transit train from the Airport Station will probably offer better options.

For New York City, just take a New Jersey Transit train—cheaper and more frequent.

For points north of New York City (upstate New York, New England), a few Amtrak trains might pass through headed to Boston, but in most cases you need to travel to New York Penn Station to catch Amtrak. To reach New York Penn Station, take New Jersey Transit, since it goes there as well and is cheaper and more frequent than Amtrak.

This brochure has a route map shows the various options.

I will be heading south on Amtrak, so it seems like I need to "take the AirTrain to the end of the line, Newark Liberty Airport Train Station" and allow 2 hours. Thanks Clark, NYtraveler, Deb and ellen!

If you are holding an Amtrak ticket, the monorail is included in the Amtrak fare.

Thank-you Tom, I didn't know that.

Hi! We will arrive to Newark Liberty Airport from Europe, and then take a train (Amtrak) to New Haven, Conn. As far as I can see, we have to take the Air Train/monorail to get to the Newark Liberty Airport Train Station for the Amtrak train?

Mareng26 - In answer to your simple question: "Yes."

For further details, the pdf brochure noted above says it all:

In the way of friendly, unsolicited advice, permit me to suggest that, instead of posting on a thread begun (and ended) over two years ago, you start a new thread.

To be honest, @mareng26, I would have booked the trip from NY Penn Station since you must change trains there regardless (and then you could have taken a cheaper NJ Transit train into the very same train station since you have to change trains there anyway). I don't know if your fare is changeable, but that might be worth looking into, and then you won't be tied to a specific train out of Newark Airport Station.
