Everyone visits Yellowstone but does nobody go rafting?

Trying to find information about the rafting in either Gardiner or Jackson Hole but there is little to no conversation on this site?

Has anyone ever rafting in either of these two places ? Is one better than the other?

Any ideas of other activities in Yellowstone?

On advice from a friend, who was once a tour director in the area, Barker-Ewing rafting out of Jackson is a good choice. In her opinion, Jackson is much better for rafting than Gardiner.

Did a nice trip with Barker-Ewing 10+ years ago. Great wildlife and very good with kids [5 & 7].

Hi Big Daddy,

You will find most of the rafting and float trip questions under Jackson Hole, rather than Yellowstone. There is no rafting in Yellowstone Natl Park. There is rafting within the boundaries of Grand Teton Natl Park/Jackson Hole - on the Snake River.

There are many companies in Jackson. They have a good town website that will list most of them.

Have fun!

Check out "The Total Yellowstone Page." This website is a wealth of information for anyone going to Yellowstone and surrounding areas. I got the name of a rafting outfitter here several years ago by posting a question on the chat page.

We went with Jackson Hole whitewater several years back. It's a good ride, my daughter was young (12) and she was positioned in the middle of the craft for safety reasons -- we all really enjoyed it -- was a trip highlight. You might get a AAA discount -- would recommend reservations.

We did a short Snake River rafting trip a few years back. It was short, fun, uneventful. I'd never rafted but I think if you like rafting it might be more fun to take a longer trip.

There is also a watering spot in the park where you can take a picnic and glide down some rocks. I busted my butt. Hope your luck will be better than mine.
