Everglades-- from West or East coast?

We want to visit the Everglades in late January, driving down from Tampa. We have about 3-4 nights maximum. Will we be able to see a lot if we are based in the Everglades City vicinity area the whole time, or should be spend a night or two in the Homestead area?

If you get near Naples, please check out Corkscrew Swamp--quite a wonderful place.

Mistyal:

While I am not a native of the area, I do remember visiting the Everglades National Park which is extremely close to Everglades City. Check out Google maps of the region where you are staying. I think you should be fine staying in Everglades City versus Homestead. What type of things are you looking to see/do? Last time I was there I took airboat tours of the everglades and held a baby alligator. I would check out the Everglades National Park's website as they might have further suggestions (nps.gov/ever).

We just had the most wonderful vacation in that area this year!

We went to Little Gasparilla Island, off Cape Haze/Placida.

It's a bridgeless barrier island without any commercial businesses, so you have to take your groceries.

However, it's one of the most beautiful beaches we've visited, and we've been to many, including the Caribbean, Mexico, Costa Rica, FL Keys, California, Outer Banks, NC, Spain, the Canary Islands, Mallorca, the French Riviera, Amalfi and everything in between.

It has (by far)the most complete shells we've ever seen!

We rented from Tarpon Realty in Cape Haze. Ask for Holly!

Thank you for your relies, one and all. We will check out the Little Corkscrew spot. Little Gasparilla Is. is pretty far north from where we want to be, so we'll have to remember that for another time.

We will definitely stay on the west side of the park rather than go to Homestead area,
Thanks again!
