Everglades - Flamingo Inn
 

Does anyone have any experience with the Flamingo Inn in the Everglades? I will be visiting in early March. Any other advice for what to see/do in the Everglades. How long should I spend there? I appreciate any input!

you will want to visit the clyde butcher gallery- an amazing b and w photographer who really captures the dreamy spirit of the place. There's not a whole lot to do except the airboat journeys into the Glades- a noisy but neat experience with amazing nature. I hear there's a hotel in Everglades City that was converted from the old bank- you can sleep in the vault, etc. Don't know the name but Im sure their Chamber of Commerce or a web site could help. You might also consider a day trip to Naples.

Dear KKIES, <BR> <BR>My wife and I stumbled upon Everglades City about 2 years ago and had one of the most outstanding times ever. We like to explore and take the path less traveled. We stayed at the Flamingo Inn and we were pleased. The fun came when we went for a drive and found the Everglades National forest park within a few miles. We took last minute sunset cruise that is run by the park service. The captain (who's name I think was John) narrated the trip with a 1 hour comedy monolog. The other passagers and I were rolling with laughter. You can buy beer on the boat and sip while the sun sets. We saw dolfins, manitees, sharks, and birds of prey. If you enjoy fishing, you can rent a decent center console boat with gas for about $50 for a day. You also can visit an Indian village a few miles away. Dining is dificult, everything seems to be fried.

Hi, KKIES. My husband and I spent several nights at the Flamingo Inn in January almost a year ago. I have to tell you, the accommodations were lacking in almost every respect. The term "inn" is a misnomer when applied to this place, which is really a motel. The entire place was delapidated. Our room was threadbare and shabby, the bathroom had mildew , and the air conditioning unit in the wall sounded like a jet engine. You could not pay me to spend another night there! On the other hand, the location itself and the restaurant were very good.

Sorry, in the previous post I was referring to the Flamingo Lodge, not the Flamingo Inn. The lodge is located in the Everglades National Park. If there truly is a Flamingo Inn, I didn't mean to disparage it. I

Thanks for all the responses. I was referring to the Flamingo Lodge in the park.As I am regarded as a little on the picky side, it may not be the place for me. I will consider Everglades City instead, as there seems to be more options there. <BR>

Having stayed at both Everglades City and Flamingo - my advice would be to skip Everglades City. Depressing. <BR>Flamingo on the other hand was very old Florida - not Floriduh! We did a 5-mile canoe trip (available at the kiosk) and it was awesome. The Everglades as you may never get to see them! Accommodations nothing to rave about; we stayed in a "cottage" for 2 nights which was a bit run down for a national park, but we try to overcome these shortcomings by enjoying what is good for us. We stayed there in November and it was still a bit warm with too many skeeters. <BR>
