Ever rented an RV?

We're looking to rent an RV to do a quick cross state trip.

Any one ever rented one? I've already checked into licensing requirements. Any particular snafus to look out for? As far as budgeting, aside from the rental fees, mileage allowances and gas (!), any hidden charges to look for?

Lastly, any recommendations for national companies that handle rentals? We are in Washington state, so any local companies there would also be appreciated.

Thanks!

You need to log on to www.rv.net for more details..
However, one big issue now is the price of gas..
Our RV ,23 ft. self contained, gets
8-9 MPG . You add your rental fee to this and you are talking --lots of money..(Rental fees $50 to $90 a day)
The only way we use ours now is to travel 300-500 miles and stay at least 5-7 days. This way the cost of gas is balanced out by the amount we would pay for motels. (the places we go motel/hotels average$ 90-100
a night.
Hope this helps...

Thanks Traveler. We're actually looking to go back for a college football game. No hotel accommodations are available. So really, we are considering renting from somewhere closer to the destination to reduce impact of gas prices.

Plus, we think it'll be a fun experience.

Yikes, my 23.5-foot Class C gets 10 or 11 MPG; 9 if I am in a hurry and have to drive 70 MPH!

In most (if not all) states, special licenses aren't required for the usual rental sizes, just for the giant Class A's.

I agree that the discussion boards on rv.net are a great resource.

Whatever you do, watch the movie RV before doing anything - it's a hoot! ;)

We rented an RV in London and drove up to Scotland as a family. It was great.

The things we noticed the most:

Don't drive an RV in the city.

Pay attention in high winds especially on bridges. They are very hard to control.
