evening gowns fashion district?

Does anyone have favorite shops and their location in the fashion district for gown shopping? Looking for a mother's gown for a wedding, trying to focus on just a few stores(maybe 6 or 8). Need a "young" look maybe with a bolero jacket. Got gowns??? (Ha!)

Size?

Budget?

There are many sample size sales - but can you wear a sample size (not always a 2 - but rarely large sizes).

And some of the stores have a great selection - depending on what you want to spend.

Oh! Budget is not a factor (less that $3K) but I guess size is. I'm an 8/10 size! Should I forget about going there?

You will have much better luck at Saks, Bergdorfs, Bloomies, or Klienfields. Also hit up Lord & Taylor.

The Fashion District may or may not have sample sales that may or may not be in your size.

As mother of the bride I was having miserable luck finding something in Northern California.  Then, my daughter took me to Santa Moncia to some random dress shop on MONTANA AVE.  We walked in, the lady said, "here is your size.  it will look good."  It was perfect.  We spent a total of 15 minutes there.  Small shop, big service. And I spent about 1/6 of your budget.

Clifford Michael - known for their mother of the bride dresses, don't know whether they are too "old" looking

Pilar Rossi 784 Madison Avenue

Carolina Herrera? also on madison avenue

edressme, you could look on their website to see if they have anything you like and then visit their nyc showroom,

I also went recently to a Birnbaum and Bullock wedding dress sample sale with a friend and they mentioned that they do custom mother of bride dresses, and i think they started at $1000 or $1500. don't remember the exact price they suggested.

Note: I am not mother of the bride age, but have done some shopping in nyc for my mother and these are the places that have been suggested to me.

I'm not sure of your style, but you might want to check out Morgane Le Fay which caters to different ages and will make dresses in different colors, lengths, w/ and w/out jkts, etc.

746 Madison Ave - UES
67 Wooster - Soho
Also in Santa Monica

I also think that Saks, Bergdorfs and Kleinfelds should be looked at.

Helen Morley is known for great gowns that fit and are flattering. She uses a lot of boleros to cover a strapless dress. She's sold in Bergdorf Goodman in NYC but may also be in a store near you.

Almost all of the fashion district stores are wholesale only, and they say so on the front door.

(Yes, there are exceptions.)

I agree you're better of at Saks, Bloomingdale's, Bergdorf, etc.
