Eureka & Calistoga Lodging - Reasonable!!

I am stunned at the prices in Calistoga. We may have to give up staying there. Anyone have any info about nice B&B or hotel in Calistoga for under $160 a night? Also, any suggestions for Eureka would be appreciated.

The Roman Spa in Calistoga lists their prices at 118.00 to 220.00. They are a motel but they have three mineral pools (warm, hot and hotter) that you can enjoy. Some of their rooms have kitchenettes--I'm guessing those are the more expensive ones. http://www.tales.com/RomanSpa/rates.html

Calistoga has become very expensive. A lot depends on when your trip is. In winter you can get bargains but from spring through autum you will have to pay a lot.

The Roman Spa previously mentioned now has rooms from $140 up to over $250. But they do offer AAA & AARP discounts of 10%

Probably, tho the only relatively inexpensive place you will find is the Comfort Inn for around $100 for the smallest rooms - But even they have rooms up to almost $300.

as for Eureka, try the the Red Lion or Comfort Inn there - they have reasonable rates. I usually don't stay in chains like Comfort Inns but in pricey locations they usually offer good value.

"A Weavers Inn" B&B in Eureka is classy and reasonable. Be sure to visit the log museum restaurant across the bridge - it has a name, but it escapes me. Fun, huge meal, reasonable.

Denise,

I lived in the Eureka area several years ago. For the most part, there are the standard chain hotels, most on the south end of town. A new one is right by Bayshore mall (I've forgotten the chain, though) and a Marie Calender's restaurant is in the same parking lot. Nothing fancy, just decent food at reasonable prices.

If you're looking for something other than Holiday Inns, etc., my suggestion is to stay at the Scotia Inn, which is about 15 minutes or so south of Eureka. Hubby and I did a New Year's Eve overnighter there once. If I remember right, it was about $180 or so, and I'm sure that was an inflated price due to the holiday. The inn has a restaurant and I had the best filet mignon of my life there!

Will you be in Eureka for a length of time? If so, I can give you suggestions of my favorite places to eat there and in Arcata (the next town to the north). If you have a particular cuisine you're interested in, post back here and I'll fill you in.

Thank you all, and Samantha, we will be staying in Eureka 2 nights. We like steaks, seafood, regular good ol' American cooking! Still haven't given up hope for something cozy & romantic in both Calistoga & Eureka for $160 or under per night.

Denise, did you look at the website, calistogafun.com? There are a number of less expensive lodging options, including Dr. Wilkinson's, the Calistoga Village Inn and the Calistoga Inn, but I wouldn't term any of them romantic. Have a look at the website and maybe you'll find something that fits the bill.

Denise,

2 seafood restaurants in Eureka immediately come to mind - the Sea Grill on E. St. and Woodley Island Marina (nice setting, on the water) on Highway 255. Both are about in the middle of the town, not more than a 5-10 minute drive from anywhere you'd be staying. Of the 2, hubby and I preferred Woodley Island.

Although we never ate there, many people have sung the praises of the Samoa Cookhouse for good, hearty all American food in large quantities. It's sort of a lumberjack-setting type of place - eating on benches, etc. It's off of Samoa Rd., a little past where Woodley Island is.

You also mentioned you like steaks and if you're willing to splurge (dinner for hubby and I was about $60), the best place to go is Ch'men DeFaire (not sure of exactly spelling). Awesome filet mignon and it's a tiny restaurant - 8 or 10 tables. We needed reservations and called about a week or so ahead.

Good luck with your search for a cozy and romantic place to stay. Being that we lived near Eureka, we never had the need to find someplace, except for our stay at the Scotia Inn. However, one place did come to mind since I posted last - try calling the Eureka Inn. It's the largest hotel (I think) in the town and I know that during Christmas there was always big write-ups in the local paper about how it was decorated, the elaborate brunches, etc. That just might be what you're looking for.

If you have any other questions about the Eureka area, feel free to ask. We lived there for 4 years and I'll be happy to answer anything I can.
