Estes Park-Resort/Hotel Suggestions?

We (two adults, no children) will be visiting Rocky Mountain National Park in mid-September. Since we'll be flying in to Denver and driving right up to the Park, we're looking for a nice place by the eastern entrance. As we have read negative comments, on this site, about the Stanley Hotel, we're looking for other possible options. Thanks!

In June we stayed at Deer Crest (www.deercrest.net), which is at the eastern entrance. All units face the river and it's a quiet, relaxing setting. No smoking. We got their largest unit, which was on two levels (living room with fireplace, kitchenette, bathroom, dining area, upstairs BR and half-bath).

Cin,

Just returned from RMNP a couple weeks ago. We stayed (two adults)at the Baldpate Inn (www.baldpateinn.com). It is a B&B about 7 miles outside Estes. It is on the National Historical Register, built in 1907. It is very rustic (old)and I joked that I don't think much has been updated since then. That being said, we were there to hike and the rusticness was just what we wanted. Service was good and rates included a 3 course gourmet breakfast which was outstanding. The thing we liked was it was outside of the hustle and bustle of Estes Park, about 9,000 foot elevation nestled in Twin Sister Peaks. The front porch looks down over the valley. Everynight guests enjoy bedtime snacks served in the lobby (hot chocolate chip cookies, lemon bars, etc...).

Take a look at Sunnyside Knoll - http://www.sunnysideknoll.com/

Very nice quiet cabins for adults.

Boulder Brook is beautiful. Stayed there with hubby a few years ago. A bit outside of town, right on the river.

I agree with mona. Our family stayed at Boulder Brook three years ago, which is right on the Fall River, just west of Estes Park. Beautiful setting, family-run business, great service. We had a two-room condo with kitchenette, and paid about $200. If they're booked, look for other condos on Fall River Road along the Fall River. This area is the most scenic, least touristy area of Estes Park.

I don't know about the negative comments about the Stanley. I stayed there 3 years ago after a remodel and found it comfortable.
