I'd vote for Estes. And it's not that crowded after August. For lodging I check www.vrbo.com and www.esteparkrealestate.com (vacation rentals).

I'd vote for Estes Park because of RMNP. We've been there many times and the hiking at the time of year will be wonderful (if it doesn't snow!). Trail Ridge Road is stunning.

As far as places to stay you may want to consider YMCA of the Rockies cabins. I know it doesn't sound romantic but they are reasonably priced (especially at that time of year), charming, very close to RMNP and we love the atmosphere and views. They have a nice lodge. Also, there won't be many families as school will be in session. I'm sure there are many other places in the area.

On the road to the YMCA is Dunraven Inn Restaurant - we loved it and it would be romantic. (Look up reviews on Trip Advisor).

Have a fun weekend!

Estes Park it is! That was actually my first choice, but having never been to either location, I wanted experienced opinions!

Now, I'm on the hunt for bed and breakfasts or inns.

Anyone with ANY suggestions that haven't been mentioned? :)

Thx!

We had a lovely stay there. Great owners, breakfast, hot tub, location. It is small - only 3 rooms. The owners, Eric and Caprisa are very knowledgable about the area and the history.

Great! They will have great site seeing and restaurant recommendations too. Please tell them hello from Rick and Connie from Arvada.
