Estancia Hotel La Jolla - Business Retreat

Your opinion please of this hotel for our business retreat. Is the location good? I'm familiar with Torrey Pines area but can't tell from photos if it is wedged between anything else. Thanks ((h))

It is right across the street from UCSD. Nothing (except the university) is within walking distance.

It is about 2-3 miles from downtown La Jolla.

I don't have any information about the hotel itself.

I really like this hotel even though its on Torrey Pines across the street from UCSD..
Hotel is wedged between Blackhorse residential development and the Salk Institute and Torrey Pines Glider Port.
Conde Nast gave it their approval in 2005..
When and how long are you staying for your business retreat?
Up the road is the Hilton Torrey Pines and the Lodge at Torrey Pines which is lovely but very expensive..

Thanks for the input. Our retreat is in November. Is the Hilton Torrey Pines nicer or a better location? It's also on the short list, along with: Coronado Marriott; Rancho Bernardo Inn and Paradise Point Resort. I just don't see staying on Coronado and not staying at the Hotel Del - which didn't make the "short" list. ((h))

The Coradano Marriots is actually a very nice Marriott - it was a Le Meridian prior to being purchased by the Marriott and it shows - rooms are a little nicer/roomier then some of the middle of the road Marriots. You can take a ferry across the way to downtown and that is fun... I like it MUCH better then any of your other choices..jmo.

Agree that Coronado is a much nicer location for a meeting than Torrey Pines, especially if you don't mind people going "off campus." The only reason (imo) to stay at Torrey Pines would be if you're staying at the Lodge and/or going to golf.

Yes Mclaurie - last time I was at the Marriott we walked to eat at a group of resturants...cannot recall where we ended up but it was very good seafood...hummmm???

Estancia would be good if you don't want participants "sneaking off campus".

Otherwise, I'd vote for the Coronado Marriot as well.

Coronado Marriott is right on the bay and the water taxi picks you up at the dock of the hotel or the Ferry Landing next door and goes to Downtown SD.
Gaslamp is a great place to eat and drink.
Dawn..Is the seafood restaurant Peohe's? Owned by the Chart House..excellent seafood but pricey.
If its late in November for you business meeting, maybe the Hotel Del will be decorated with their stunning Christmas decorations!

Tams - YES - that was it...we actually had a g/c so that helped ease the pain of the price and we generally use points from business travel for Marriotts - If we are not going to a Pardre game or hanging out down-town - I actually prefer that Marriott over the gaslamp one and the Harbor one :-)

I'd vote for the Coronado Marriot. In addition to Peohe's, Il Fornaio is next door and I like the view and food. Plus you could go to Coronado Brewing Company which is just down the street on Orange Ave. Guests would also get a "wow" factor from the view.

The Estancia is nice, my husband had his business meeting there and the food is good. But traffic on that road is becoming a problem which you will have since the kids will be in school in Nov. There really isn't anything nearby.

As others have said, you could take the ferry over to the Gaslamp or a quik trip over the bridge. Plus it would be closer to the airport if people are flying in.
