escape the heat

Looking for suggestions for a 1-week Arizona vacation in august to escape the heat. I've already been to Sedona, Flagstaff and the Grand Canyon.

August in Arizona...and you are trying to escape the heat? Good Luck! Find yourself a huge mall and spend the days there or in a pool.

Luv2fly, I thought I must have read that wrong. He can't be serious.

I can't stand the heat in August, so I'm heading to the Baltics in a week.
70's tops!

Arizona, I don't think so, unless he's just escaping the humidity.

I thought all "Zonians" were in La Jolla in August!

I hear it is only about 80 in Prescott right now.

What about the White Mountains in eastern AZ-- high temperatures would be in the 70's.

I haven't been personally, but our kids were there camping the past two weekends and say it's beautiful. Friends of ours developed a small resort near the town of Greer, AZ in the White Mountains--elevation 8000'+. It's costly but looks lovely--The Lodge at Hidden Meadow Ranch, http://www.ranchweb.com/hiddenmeadowranch/.

Definitely, the White Mountain areas are the only really cool places in Arizona.....they are still hot during the day, but at this time of year will probably have showers daily and be cool at night. Northern Arizona cools off at night, but is still hot during the day. Last weekend we were in Prescott and it felt pretty nice during the day while sitting in the shade.

The White Mountain area and then north to Canyon De Chelly area will probably fit the bill. Elevations of 5000- 8000 ft and higher. Has anyone vacationed there? Is there enough to see and do to fill a week? To clarify my original email, I just moved to AZ so I'm looking to experience the beauty and cooler temperatures of the NE section of the state.

I loved the White Mountains. Only drove through as the "back way" from the Grand Canyon back to Scottsdale. But it looked like a typical mountain getaway and was shocked I was still in AZ! I'm sure if you investigate, you'll find lots to do.

I do have to share how much I loved Frank Lloyd Wright's Taleisin West. Toured it during the day and then went back twice in one week for the Friday night tour.

I did a search and found this link - http://www.frommers.com/destinations...943010020.html

I'm sure there's more out there but this link describes horseback riding, hikes, fishing, golf and whitewater rafting.

Happy researching!

This may have been a total fluke, but when I was on vacation in Arizona, we came in from the southeast, and Bisbee and Tombstone were very cool. It was only when we got to Tucson that it got crazy HOT.

I have one more suggestion, but it is SE Arizona. go to Sierra Vista. The mountains help you escape the heat.
