Engagement Ring Shopping In New York City

Hi There,
Can anyone suggest some appropriate places to go engagement ring shopping in New York City? We are 2 Brits planning a week in NYC and need to find that "special" ring. We are staying on East 42nd street so if there are any local suggestions...even better

Any suggestions greatly appreciated

Thank you

There can't be any place more special than Tiffany's......if you have the money.

As has been mentioned here before (do a search), 47th Street between 6th and 5th is the
Diamond District. You need to know what you are doing - know something about diamonds. I always use and recommend Ianelli Diamonds, 45 W 47th.

What are you looking for?Fortunoff.com is reputable.

Harry Winston, Van Cleef, Tiffany ... 5th Avenue has it all!

(I bought my wife's ring at Harry Winston, and the service & experience were simply extraordinary. Tiffany is too "assembly-line" for my tastes.)

JonRo in the 47th St Jewelers on Fifth building. They have a small booth. They are wonderful and reputable jewelers with gorgeous stones. And very fair prices (of course, being British, you'll think everything is a bargain in the States!)

Just to set the record straight, Marginal is NOT the marginal_margiela aka Thingorjus.

Thingorjus would never recommend Tiffany's. He would recommend Verdura.

How much do you know about diamonds - valuing them and what they're worth?

You can get some good prices on 47th St - but you can also get taken if you don;t know diamond values (based on the various factors besides size).

I would do a lot of studying on not just size and cut - but also color, quality - and what realistic prices are. You can get the size size/cut diamond at vastly different prices - based on other factors.

In any case I would shop one of the major stores first (Tiffany or Fortunoff or Winston - if that's your price range) before going to 47th St.

Environmentally conscious jewelry is the new thing - jewelry designers use reclaimed gold and antique diamonds. It's a cool idea to know that you're not contributing to the negative environmental impact of mining. Just a thought!
