Consider the Top of the Rock instead. (The recently reopened observation deck on the top of 30 Rockefeller Plaza)

But if the ESB is your choice, then, yes, purchase your tickets in advance. You'll still stand in a LONG line for the elevators, but you'll only stand in one long line.

I work at 30 Rock and I HIGHLY suggest visting the Top of the Rock observation deck. It really is very, very nice.

I agree. I used to work on the 40th floor of 30 Rock, and the view from my window was amazing (ESB from top to bottom, and Lady Liberty in the distance) -- so you can imagine the view from the top.

But ESB is famous, not to mention the whole "Sleepless in Seattle" thing ...

For us older folks, it's more of "An Affair to Remember" thing than a "Sleepless in Seattle" thing :)

Plus that little climbing monkey thing as well....

KE1TH, Sleepless in Seattle is based on An Affair To Remember and is referred to throughout the movie.

Better yet, have a cocktail at The Rainbow Grille at the top of Rockefeller Center (where Meg Ryan gives him back the engagement ring after watching the ESB light up) and also visit ESB.

The ESB is such a gorgeous testement to Art Deco Design (as is Rock Center but not as much IMO) it would be a shame to miss.

What the heck. Do both.

The Top of the Rock offers one glorious night view that's impossible to get at the Empire State Building. And, that, of course, is a view of the Empire State Building!

At Top of the Rock you have plenty of room to wander around.....ESP does not give you as much room if crowded. We did ESP during the daytime and TOR at night time. TOR is great!!!!!!!!

GoTravel.... I know..... but they're not in the same league..... :)

People will still be watching (and crying over) Nickie and Terry in 50 years, but poor Sam and Annie will be forgotten.....

The original is by far the better movie, IMHO.....

its up there with Breakfast at Tiffanys!!

KE1TH, I didn't like the original as much (A Love Affair??) and hated the last one Annette Benning and Warren Beatty made.

I am a huge Cary Grant fan and have always loved his chemistry with Deborah Kerr.

capecodshanty Apr 14th, 2006 10:05 AM

it was "an affair to remember". GoT. Starring Deborah Kerr and Cary Grant.

GoTravel Apr 14th, 2006 10:10 AM

No, the original wasn't An Affair to Remember. That was the name of the remake with Deborah Kerr and Cary Grant.

capecodshanty Apr 14th, 2006 10:12 AM

Never realized that. Thought the early 50's movie was the original. I'll have to Google!

GoTravel Apr 14th, 2006 10:15 AM

The original was "Love Affair" directed by Leo McCarey starring Irene Dunne and Charles Boyer.

Leo McCarey remade the same movie less than 20 years later in 1957 with Carey Grant and Deborah Kerr but renamed it "An Affair To Remember".

It was then butchered in 1994 by Warren Beatty and Annette Benning and renamed it back to the original title "Love Affair".
