Embassy Suites Washington DC

There are two Embassy Suites in Washington DC. One is on 900 10th Street NW and the other one is on 1250 22nd Street NW. We are a family of 5 travelling on 12/25. Which location do you think is better for sightseeing, restaurants, proximity to the subway?

Thanks

Clau

I would pick the one on 22nd.

I agree -- the one on 22nd. It is in a more vibrant and interesting part of town and near the Metro and a great variety of restaurants.

I'd pick 22nd St also becaue I like the neighborhood's commercial-residential mix, but the downtown location isn't bad -- fairly close to the Gallery Place resto/entertainment/museum district -- and it is newer.

22nd St

I looked at the map, and that is at NY Ave and 10th St. It's about 4-5 blocks from a metro (the one on 10th st). Gallery Place isn't that close, around 5 blocks. I think there is hooker business around 10th and K at night, if that bothers you. I used to work in that area (closer to Franklin Sq), and it can get dangerous at night because of that, and a lot of cars cruising around.

Christina, that area has changed a lot in the past several years. I'd agree with your description for three years ago, but think expansion of the lively entertainment district has reached 10th and I by now. Upscale restaurants Acadiana and Brasserie Beck are within a block of that location.

I personally have never stayed at the one on 22nd, but i've heard from others that it is very nice.

However, I did stay with my family of four (two adults, two teenagers) at the one at 10th and K two years ago, and it was fine for sightseeing, plus there's a park right there. The metro really isn't THAT long of a walk.

My husband and I stayed at the 10th street location in summer of 2007, and we felt perfectly safe. It was a very nice hotel, and we would stay there again. We walked in that area a lot. It is maybe three or four blocks to the subway, not a bad walk at all. Just be prepared for lots of walking in DC, wherever you stay.

How are you traveling? Are you only going to be there one night, 12/25?

If you like Embassy Suites, how about the one in Alexandria? It has a Metro station across the street, and lively King Street almost next door.

If you must stay in DC, here's another vote for 22nd St

lincasanova Nov 30th, 2008 03:38 PM

i stayed at 10th street and there are buses at the corner.

neighborhood is fine. went to beck's a block away.

really enjoyed this hotel.

but in winter, ( i went in summer) having a metro across the street might be a very tempting solution from kansasmom.
and alexandria is so charming.
