Embassy Suites Washington D.C.
 

Am planning on staying in Washington D.C. with my parents, husband and 11 year old son in October. Am trying to decide where to stay. Will be going to the Arlington Cemetary as well as the WWII Monument. Does anyone have any experience with the Embassy Suites? The breakfast sounds convenient and the location sounds pretty good. Also, any other suggestions would be appreciated.

The Embassy Suites located closest to the monuments/museums and only 4 miles from the Ronald Reagan Airport. Do you have any other suggestions? I like the idea of an "included" breakfast in the event my parents want to eat breakfast earlier.

There are 2 different Embassy Suites in DC - one is Chevy Case Pavillion (way up at the DC/MD border). I assume you are referring to the one in downtown DC.

Embassy Suites Downtown is very nice and is in a nice area. It gets good reviews on this board. The closest Metro (Dupont - red line) is 5 blocks away. That's OK w/ most people but some prefer something within 2 blocks for maximum convenience.

When going from Embassy Suites to metro, New Hampshire Ave. seems like the logical route (it's a direct diagonal shot). However, there is nothing along that road (like food). Consider taking a lettered street and a numbered street instead:
When heading between the hotel (@ 22&M), and the Metro (@19th & Dupont Circle), consider walking east on M st to 19th st. and then north on 19th to the Metro.
Alternately, you could go north on 22nd and then east on P st. toward the Metro.

Other suggestions might be:
1. Capitol Hill Suites (one block to Capitol South Metro - orange/blue line)
2. Lincoln Suites (two blocks to Farragut North red line and two blocks to Farragut West orange/blue line)
3. Radisson Barcello (not suites but large rooms - two blocks to Dupont Metro)

All these as well as Embassy Suites downtown are in nice, convenient areas for sightseeing, eating, etc.

Just saw your latest post after I posted. All of the places mentioned above will have a place your parents could go for an earlier breakfast within a blocks walk.
And I see, yes of course you meant Embassy Suites Downtown.
What days will you be here?

Corymom: I have stayed in the Embassy Suites in downtown D.C. twice and found it a cut above the other ones I've been in.

It is very conveniently located and there are some good restaurants nearby. Don't forget to visit the Vietnam Wall and, of course, Mr Lincoln.

Thank you for all of your suggestions and input. Any good restaurant suggestions given that you have had so many other good ideas?

Teaism - 2009 R St. NW Inexpensive. Best breakfast. Also good for lunch.

Brickskeller - 1523 22nd St. NW Inexpensive. Saloon type food, also has ENORMOUS beer selection. Your son will be fine here if it's not after 8pm.

Inexpensive - pastas, salads and more.

Carvan Grill - 1825 18th St. NW
Inexpensive - persian

Julia's Empanadas - 1221 Connecticut Ave. NW GREAT!
Very inexpensve.

Don't go at night (crowded nighclub)

We stayed at the Embassy Suites Downtown about a year ago. Very good location - upscale and quiet, but close to Dupont Circle. The rooms were huge, with a kitchenette and sitting room. A few minor drawbacks - the room we had was in need of a fresh paint job and some refurbishing (maybe by now they have redone the rooms). Also, the free breakfast was pretty mediocre - bagels, coffee and fruit. However, for the price we paid ($85 on Hotwire), it was a super deal.
