Embassy Suites-Maui - How many stars rating?

I have noticed that many people have hated or loved the Embassy Suites-Maui. Family staying for free(timeshare gift from relative). Last trip to Maui, we stayed at Westin OV Room - location, beach and pools 5 stars hotel rooms - 2 stars. How would you rate Embassy Suites - location, beach, pools, room?

Rooms - roomy but needed renovating. It just felt "not clean" It was not extrmemly dirty, but again not up to the Embassy standards.

Location - the beach isn't anything to talk about. You need to drive to Lahaina.

Pool area - nice

buffet - not up to other "Embassy" standards.

They had just changed ownership when we were there in 96. Hopefully things are running a little more smoothly and they have had renovations.

I personally have never been to the Embassy Suites Maui although I have heard mixed reviews about the hotel. I personally think that the Westin was much better although if you have a free stay at the hotel then I would for sure take it.

The Embassy Suites Maui is a timeshare hotel and they are actually with a company called Marc Resorts. On Marc Resort's web site I was able to find a complete virtual tour of the hotel recently updated after the renovation.

Embassy Suites Maui Virtual Tour:

www.marcresorts.com/properties/index.asp?pid=19

Pleasant.net also has a virtual tour of the Embassy Suites Maui, although it was taken before the renovation.

The hotel I again think looks just fine especially if it's free, although again I have never been there in person. So because of this I would have to go off of what other's think who have actually stayed there or have seen it in person.

I hope this is of some help! I personally like to stay in the Wailea area at the Kea Lani resort, which is also all suites although much nicer!
I stayed there, it was great for the money. Friends of ours stayed at the Sheraton Black Rock, which blew away the Embassy, but they paid twice as much. The rooms at the Embassy were huge, clean and our balcony view was great. Beach was good, not great. Pool was pretty fun too. Skip the "free" breakfast on your first night, it's a timeshare pitch.

A hotel that makes you listen to a timeshare pitch AND charges you regular room rates??
What gall.
I'd boycott anyplace that pulled that kind of a stunt on me.
