Embassy Suites Kaanapali - comments?

Hello. We're going to Maui next Spring for 7 days and my family has decided to stay in the Kaanapali area (we have two kids ages 10 and 12). We're looking for a moderately-priced condo unit that's on a nice beach with a pool. I've looked on the internet and talked to a travel agent about places to stay. The travel agent came up with several suggestions, including the Embassy Suites. Has anyone stayed there before? If so, would you stay there again and why? We'e thinking of going in February, and it seems we can expect to pay at least $2300 for 7 nights. Is this reasonable for that time of year (I know it's the peak season). I also see that you rent directly through the condo owner, go through some type of association or through a travel agent. Has anyone found one way preferable over the other. It seems the travel agent can get us cheaper airfare on a direct flight to Maui and good prices on the condo. Thank you.

ES Kaanapali is a timeshare.
It was originally a true Embassy Suites but is now mangaed by Mark resorts I believe.
It attracts mostly families with needs for lots of space and buffet food.
Beach there is poor/small.
It's probably great with kids.
I don't recommend it at all for honeymooners, though.

Embassy Suites are usually nice. I have yet to stay in a bad one. However, if you would like a condo on a nice stretch of beach that is not so "high-rise" try the Napili Sunset condos. Website:www.napilisunset.com

My wife and I stayed at the Embassy Suites in April. Overall the place is very nice. Probably about 75% timeshares though. Beach was poor. Swimming pool very nice. Food was average. Rooms were excellent. Very spacious. Service was good. Location was pretty good. Five to ten minute drive to Lahaina. Would do it again if the price was right. Have a great time.

Overpriced for a property that has a poor beach and is several miles from the main part of Kaanapali Beach.

We stayed there three years ago with our kids. We loved the hotel, room, pool, breakfast buffet, etc. The beach was small, but big enough for the kids to have some fun.

If we went back again I would consider the Sheraton Black Rock. The beach at the Sheraton is larger and has a great reef.

Hi Lee,
We stayed at the Embassy last year and had a great time. True the beach isnt spectacular but the pool and the grounds are beautiful. The rooms are mostly one bedroom condos with a sleeper sofa and mini kitchen. The bathroom is HUGE with a corner tub and shower. They have a breakfast buffet that you can pay extra for the entire week for the whole room not per person. You can get a WAY better price there by renting from an owner who is not using their unit for that year. My suggestion is to do a search for timeshare rentals and you should come up with a few. There is one right now available on the timeshare users group website advertised for about half of the price you stated. If interested it is www.tug2.net and look under classified. Have fun in Hawaii...
