Embassy Suites Hotel

Plan on travelling to New York with young kids. Has anyone stayed at this property? How close is it to subways and other attractions.

Thanks

If it's the Embassy Suites in Lower Manhattan, it's not a great location for tourists. It would be convenient to the Statue of Liberty area and Wall Street but not much else YOu would be better off staying in midtown manhattan. there is a doubletree suites in a much better location for tourists.

I agree with Rachel, that end of Manhattan isn't very convenient and is still affected by WTC aftermath.

BUT if you do decide to stay there, you might get a very good price (~$130) by bidding on Priceline for a 4-star hotel in the Financial District, since apparently the ES is the only one. Hi Bob,
The Embassy Suites Hotel is located in Battery Park City in Downtown Manhattan. It is about a 10 minute walk to several subway stops. It is within walking distance to Wall Street, Battery Park and the Staten Island Ferry terminal, South Street Seaport, Brooklyn Bridge, Chinatown, Little Italy, Tribeca and Soho. There are great playgrounds in Battery Park City for the kids and the hotel has a multiplex movie theater in the building. You will have to take a cab or the subway to get to the tourist sites in Midtown (Central Park, Times Square, 5th Ave., most major museums, Broadway Theaters.) The World Trade Center site is opposite the Embassy Suites but the clean up is basically completed. Leave a message if you have any other questions and I'll be happy to answer them.

I would have to agree with everything poster 'johnk' wrote: The Battery Park City area is extremely nice, expecially during the summer months. The parks, playgrounds and gardens are spectacular (BTW, Battery Park City is built on landfill that was from digging out all the dirt to build the original World Trade Center). The promenade at Battery Park City is a great place to stroll and admire the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island.
If you can get a good rate, and don't mind the slight inconvience, I think it's a great hotel. It's brand new, and remember, the rms are configured like suites. Additionally, breakfast is included, so for families with young kids, it's conveinent and a money-saver to be able to have a free breakfast right in the hotel.

How far is the walk from this Embassy Suites to Chinatown/Little Italy/SoHo? Also, does anyone know how much a taxi would be to Times Square or the Theater District? Thanks!

We stayed here and loved it.Probably the nicest Embassy Suites we have ever stayed at. It was close to subways and very easy to get around.

I stayed at the Embassy Suites Manhatten last July and three teenagers. The suite was perfect for our family, with two seperate rooms and two tv's The breakfast buffet was very nice and included in the room rate. The WTC subway stop was less than 5 minutes away, and we found Battery Park a very pleasant place to stroll after dinner. It was a quick subway ride to midtown. Very nice. views of the Hudson River from Battery Park and the ferry to Hoboken is handy as well. The year before we stayed at the Embassy Suites accross the River in Secaucus, NJ..That location had free parking and an indoor pool but we had to take the NJ transit bus over to the city and it stopped running fairly early . My kids did not feel that they had the "New York experience" staying in Jersey, even though it was only three miles from Manhatten.
The rates were comperable at both locations and very reasonable on the weekends.
good luck with your decision
