Embassy or Omni in DC

Bringing family (2 adults, 2 kids) to DC in late March for tourist stuff. 2 rooms at Omni are a bit cheaper than one suite at Embassy Suites. Can anybody recommend one over the other and provide reasons - condition, location, etc.?
Thanks

There are at least 3 or 4 Embassy Suites in the DC area; which one? And are you talking about the Omni Shoreham in the Woodley Park area?

Sorry - Embassy Suites in foggy bottom; Omni Shoreham in Woodley Park

Thx

I have the same question although the rates for my date are slightly more for the Omni than for Embassy Suites. Does anyone have a preference?

I haven't stayed at the ES in Foggy Bottom, but I've stayed at others in DC and across the US, and I've stayed at other hotels in Foggy Bottom, and at the Omni Shoreham.

You're comparing apples and oranges, IMHO. The Omni is an elegant 4* resort hotel in a lovely setting, and the ES's main draw is apparently their huge mediocre free breakfasts. I am personally not a fan of atrium-style hotel designs, they seem noisy and stuffy to me. Omni's pool is outdoors in a lovely garden setting, ES tend to have small pools, always indoors.

Pricewise, have you checked the various specials listed on the Omni's web site? An additional advantage if you're traveling with kids is that they're within walking distance of the zoo, where the grounds open very early and that's when the animals are most active.

I'd vote for the Omni. Very nice hotel in a wonderful neighboor. Zoo is an easy walk and the dining options are many, varied, attractive and close. It's an easy hop to the Red Line and you're right on Rock Creek Park.

. . . that would be ``wonderful neightborhood.'' The Omni is in a very pleasant area of the city. The ES location is fine, but Woodley is one of my favorite 'hoods in DC. It's very convenient to everything, but just a little bit quieter and half a step slower than being downtown. Great place to decompress a bit after a hard day of being a tourist.

The OMNI is not in downtown. Most likely you would have to Metro on the Red Line which is right near your hotel. If you want to walk around, see the sights I would go for something in the city. If you want quiet neighborhood go for the Omni. Right next door is the Marriot Wardman...check it out for the price.

Marriott Wardman is a good option too.

BTW, I don't think anybody said the Omni was downtown or the OP was even asking for downtown. The ``It's'' in my post grammatically refers to Woodley, which I said is ``a bit quieter and a half step slower than downtown.''
