Eloping - but where??

My fiancee and I decided to elope. The question is where in the US? I don't want Vegas. Any suggestions for a small, intimate, classy place to run off to?

This info should be helpful: a state by state listing of wait requirements.

Hawaii

cmcfong Jul 25th, 2005 12:24 PM

kajebu, I eloped to Hawaii and it was the smartest thing I ever did (well, choosing the right guy was the smartest, but this was a close second). We had an intimate and truly beautiful wedding on the beach at sunset and spent two weeks on our honeymoon. I have never regretted it for a minute. If that doesn't work for you, how about the Virgin Islands?
Best wishes.

I know of a couple that eloped to Grand Cayman in the year before they were hurricane hit so hard.

The pictures are beautiful and all was rented for the wedding. Her dress was traditional with veil etc. and he was formal, yet it was done on the beach. It looked very classy.

They returned the next year for their anniversary. Now they have a baby girl.

Ditto the above (except the baby girl) but it was on STT....BEAUTIVUL pics!

I've had 2 friends marry on Maui and so did my son & DIL. Though gorgeous, the pics weren't in the same league as the ones of the friend on STT. It was a complete package as well.

Belle.

I saw online that you can get married on Princess Cruise Lines and have it on a live wedding cam. That way, you can tell people at home to tune in! I think that would be a hoot! :)

We were married in Juneau, Alaska on a cruise ship. That was perfect for us. Great honeymoon trip and wedding all in one. That was 20 years ago and it was a do it yourself thing. Now they have companies you must go through and only certain cruise lines. Princess as an earlier poster mentioned.

We recently stayed at a b & b in Estes Park Colorado and found out weddings and elopements are huge up there. In fact the b & b we stayed at was the first to do it. Everyone thought they were nuts. Now they all do it. Try www.estesparkweddings.com The one we stayed at was www.guildedpinemeadows.com They do the photography, officiating, anything you want.

Go to Calistoga in the Napa Valley and get married in a hot tub filled with mud. Then take a glider plane over the valley, just you and your baby.

You could forego the mud bath if it sounds too pedestrian. I would understand.

how about the Canadian Rockies - Banff, Lake Louise - beautiful - but I just noticed you specified the US- although
thats not too far -

Caneel Bay on St. John in the Virgin Islands. Lots of information on the Caribbean board. It would be perfect.

Also, TTOL.com is a great resource!

Anywhere around Vail Colorado provides a fantastic setting for an elopement. Imagine getting married at the top of a mountain during a beautiful Rocky Mountain summer day!

Colorado gets over 300 days of sunshine a year so the odds are in your favor for sunshine on the big day.

There is also a local wedding officiant service that will go to the mountain top with you to perform the ceremony, www.rockymountainweddingofficiants.com .

Key West is a fun quirky place. Its a beach town with out much beach... but it makes up for that with lots of really cute B&B's and neat little restaurants tucked everywhere. The main island is 1.5 miles X 3.5 so you can walk or scooter everywhere.
Here's a map of all the hotels and restaurants in Key West

Check the date. The OP has been married for almost 3 years now

This old thread was topped by an ad.

Wonder how Tandoori Gal is doing?

CityWalker79 May 14th, 2008 05:27 AM

You're right. I was so excited to see someone eloping somewhere other than vegas I missed the date.. no offense to anyone who got married there but vegas just seems too corporate for a personal moment like that.

I wonder where they went. Looks like the probably got married almost the same time I did. It would have been a lot simpler if we'd eloped but my grandmother would have been crushed.
