Elizabeth on 37th, Savannah
 

Has anyone eaten at Elizabeth on 37th in Savannah? I heard it was a good restaurant, but how are the prices? Any other suggestions for good eats in Savannah? I heard Lady & Sons is a must. Any nice places that are moderately priced?

Elizabeth on 37th was very pricey, but worth it, in our opinion. We also enjoyed Bistro Savannah (not as expensive), and Sapphire Grill.

There's also a nice tapas bar called Jazz'd where we had drinks and enjoyed some live jazz after dinner. Can't remember the street it's on, though.

I had a wonderful meal at Elizabeth on 37th. It is expensive, but definitely worth it. The Lady & Sons is a must. The buffet is great.

I don't know what you consider moderately priced. The Olde Pink House is wonderful and comes with a nice jazz piano bar in the cellar. A local gal named Gail Thurmond sings and plays the piano. If I remember the dinners start at 20 bucks. This is one of my favorite places in the universe.

Lady & Sons has huge lines out on the street, so try to get there early.

Many times I can't decide among the appetizers and just order several. They bring the soup or salad first and then bring a couple nicely served instead of an entree. The entrees are great, but the appetizers are always out of this world. AND I have to save room for thier signature dessert served in a praline basket.

Last trip we started with wine and appetizer in the tavern downstairs sitting on a couch in front of the fire and next to the piano with Gail singing. Then had room for entree and split dessert - but the praline basket was sold out.

Gottleib's had been in town as a bakery. The new restaurant is getting great feedback, but I think it's as pricey as Elizabeth's.

Lady and Son's is great. Last time I was there for work I skipped the boxed lunches provided and ran over for sandwich take-out from Lady & Sons. What a great treat in the middle of the day!

Gabriel's is owned by the same folks as Pink House and the PH's manager is now managing Gabriel's. Both are good but sometimes it's easier to get in at Gabriel's. The concierge was able to get us reservations for Valentines' night that afternoon. GREAT meal!

I second the vote for Bistro Savannah - fits the bill perfectly as a nice, moderately priced place. I think Lady & Sons is a giant rip-off tourist trap and will be a total waste of your time if there is any sort of wait to get in. I am in the minority on this - maybe because huge quantities of greasy fattening southern food at high prices aren't my thing.

The roasted veggie sandwich is yummie and the asparagus sandwich on pumpernickel is out of this world.

Sorry you had a bad experience there.

My main objection was to the wait. We showed up at 5 Pm and there was already a line. They let people in gradually even though the restaurant seats many, many. We sat in the hot sun for an hour. As for whatever you ordered, that is not the typical fare, but I am sure you paid dearly for the privilege. We ordered off the menu also - chicken pot pies, lemonade but the prices were ridiculous for what you got - I don't see the value added in all of the extra junk they bring you for "free" just so you can rack up a $100 bill for what is at best good diner food.

Thank you all for your help!! I made a reservation at The Olde Pink House. That seems to be the overall winner. I will post my thoughts after the trip. Thanks again for your imput.

Nope, Craig. My $ amounts weren't anything like you described. Just to check, I looked at the menu online. Everything on the lunch menu is less than $10, with the exception of the $12.99 all-you-can-eat buffet and a $10.99 seafood item.

That seems pretty reasonable to me.

Sounds like the wait in the line really spoiled the experience for you. That's a shame.

PS - If you haven't seen the 1 hour special on the Food Network on Paula Deen's wedding, try to catch it - it's a hoot!

Went for dinner, not for lunch. At most places in the USA, dinner is twice the price of lunch. We don't eat lunch usually.
