Elections/Florida Boycott?
Anybody hear talk in your community from people of either party about boycotting "everything Florida" if that party doesn't get "it's way"? <BR> <BR>Sounds pretty drastic to hurt the whole state for the sins of a bunch of politicians and their lawyer henchmen no matter which candidate you support.
<BR> <BR>You've got to be kidding
It's not the state of Florida's fault, they are following the law, it's the darn carpetbag lawyers!
It may not be Florida's fault but our Florida Supreme Court certainly didn't help any. Instead of following the state laws they invented a new set of rules to satisfy the Gore camp.
Look, folks. Florida's election laws were vague. One part said "shall"; another part said "may." There was no explicit deadline for completion of manual recounts. <BR> <BR>One function of courts is to interpret vague laws. That is what the Florida Supreme Court did. End of story. Just chill and wait to see who really won Florida. We should know that by mid-December. Don't start whining yet, please.
Democracy: Yeah.Right. Chill. <BR>Hard to do when it may become a "Court Ordered Presidency". And I'm a travelin' Democrat. <BR> <BR>If I am going ot boycott, it will be the Democrat party. I am switching my registration from Dem. to Independent first thing Monday morning. <BR> <BR>Check your papers and see if others are doing this (whether it be from Dem to Rep or Rep to Dem or either to Ind.). <BR>Best way to protest. Doesn't hurt anybody from Fla. <BR> <BR>Travel well. Even to Fla.! Especially to Fla.!
Jay Leno joke: "You have to feel sorry for all those folks in Florida. They move down there for the warm weather to help their arthritis - then end up having to counts votes by hand!"
Wonder how many more postings-both new and in response to this 'Election' one will be made before our new prez is announced. Let'em split the win-2 years for each one, then Hillary will step in in 2004 !! God help us !!
Hey, some of us from Florida had no trouble voting with the same ballot used in Palm Beach so don't crucify all of us. It boils down to what the definition of is is! <BR>How many times does Gore need to count these ballots anyway. The count and a re-count was clear enough. Sore Loserman is so right. <BR>
The machines spit out 10,000 ballots because they could not read them. Those votes have NOT been counted. Nassau county went back to their flawed initial machine count, putting another 153 votes in question. The margin is WAAY too small for such a high stake outcome. The vote-matic inventor and Texas law agree that dimples should count. The disgraceful Bush intimidation tactics against the Palm-Dade canvassing board have tainted any claim to legitimacy by a Bush administration. But as far as boycotting Florida, it will probably ultimately come out that Gore won the popular vote there, too. Whether he has to concede before the facts are in is I guess what we are all waiting to see. I put my faith in the legal system, but I can also vote my wallet. There are some FLA counties that I would never visit. WAY too redneck.

To BoycottCronyism...who would YOU rather be "intimidated" by...30 Republicans dressed in startched, pressed khaki slacks, wearing navy blue frog belts and pinks cotton shirts, or ONE Jesse Jackson and 29 of (his) supporters? My guess is...maybe people will stay away from FL! <BR> <BR>I used to whine: "I wanna go to Miami." Now it's gore who's whining..."I want the election!" <BR> <BR>
I'll go with Jesse Jackson and his supporters anyday. In fact. I have stood by them in the past....As far as the white men standard for democracy.... do I smell a bigot?
It's one of the most crooked states in the union. Look at the Miami election fraud of a few years back. Look at the "murder for hire" scandal with the Hialeah mayor. Look at the ElianGonzales fiasco.Look at the taxpayer money used to finance Harris/Schwatzkopf get out the (Bush) vote TV ad. Look at the Republicans threatening to disregard the unanimous Supreme Coourt decision. Look at the strong arm fascist like GOP tactics in Miami. And that's just scratching the surface. If this was a banana republic we would probably be imposing sanctions! Yep, a boycott may be in order. <BR>
Gotta agree Florida is indeed a corrupt state! It is the only state in the union that allows bankrupt individuals from other states to hold onto their property! And, don't forget all the illegal immigrant and drug smuggling that goes on down there! IMO, they ought to cut Florida off at the Georgia line and let it drift down to Havanna! <BR> <BR>Boycott Cronyism-Jesse Jackson!! Please the man makes his living sponging off of other people!! He needs to get a real job!
From someone who lives in a "redneck county" in Florida... go ahead and boycott us. I'm tired of the whining carpet baggers, media and slow-driving tourists anyway. <BR>BTW, when the Democrats bussed union workers down to South Florida to protest a few weeks ago, that was ok? But Republican protestors are not?
As Republicans like to say, <BR>"It aint' over 'til yer little brother counts all the votes!"
Sorry, but I've got to respond to the message about bankrupcty laws in Florida. As a lawyer, I admit that our state is debtor-friendly, but when I last checked the laws, one who files bankruptcy is limited to homestead and a certain limited value on personal property. If your homestead is mortaged, you cannot "keep it" unless you pay as required by your loan agreement.
FLORIDA has replaced California as the land of fruits and nuts and rednecks!!!
To Anna-debtor-friendly laws?? Please!! Florida has become a haven for every white collar crook in the country! I personally know people who had mounting financial debt that fled down to Florida and their home state could not touch them!! Just like a lawyer to spin a web out of the truth!! <BR>
To Florida Hater: I misunderstood your statement about Florida allowing one to hold onto property. I thought you meant the person filed bankruptcy in the State of Florida. That is very different from someone hiding assets in Florida.
