El Paso Accommodation

We will be driving to Corpus Christi to our daughters for Christmas. El Paso would be the most convenient stop time wise. WE had a very bad experience there several years ago while staying in what we thought was a safe area. I am sure it was just one of those isolated incidents but can anyone recommend a motel/hotel fairly close to the highway and family type restaurants.

I did a post maybe a week ago asking about El Paso, TX motels (that's the title). Do you recall the name of the motel so I avoid it? I'm going to my daughter's in Austin from CA.
FYI, the La Quinta Inns were mentioned on my post as good places for the price. I'm also looking into, Comfort inn, Days Inn and a Studio 6.

Hi Trippinkpj Thanks for your reply.
I can't remember exactly where the motel was but it was just off the highway (I-10) and it was a Holiday Inn. We have friends who stayed at the Radisson by the airport and had their new BMW trashed in the parking lot. It happens everywhere I know.

I am looking at going on to Van Horn - the Best Western gets an OK review. We have a puppy so we are more limited on choice. We are going to go out of our way to spend a night in Fredricksburg. It is so beautiful at Christmas with the lights and the accommodations are very good there.

We are going to stay in Van Horn (either the BW or a Days Inn) on our way, and either El Paso or Carlsbad, NM on the way back.

Traveller69- I noted the Days Inn (in Van Horn) takes pets also ($8.- fee).

I wanted to ttt this one, so that anyone with experience staying in El Paso can give traveller69 myself regions of El Paso that are safe to stay in. Thanks!

Bumping again.
DebitNM- if you are here, are you familiar with El Paso areas, and the safest to stay overnight?
Or anyone else with El Paso knowledge. Thanks. :-)

Hi Traveller69- Just checking where you ended up staying. We stayed in Van Horn, TX on our way to Austin, and in Deming, NM on the way back. Both Motel 6's, basic and clean. I personally didn't like the looks, smog, etc. of El Paso so we decided we would push on farther on our way back. We ate in Las Cruces for dinner, and were very pleased (Cattle Baron Steak and Seafood/ small chain I think). I'd like to spend more time in LC in the future.
