Ekscrunchy Is Absolutely Correct About Motorino
We went to Motorino today for their luncheon special. It is probably the best pizza we have had in the United States and better than some in Italy.
Today they had the choice of four different personal-sized pizzas and either a salad or store made soft serve ice cream for $12 a person. Mrs. Adu had the brussels sprout pie and I had the spicy soppressata. The crust was ethereal and the ingedients were superior. The use thir own extra virgin olive oil which is on sale at the store. The brussels sprouts pie also had small tastes of pancetta, garlic, mozzareela, and pecorino. The soppressata has mozzarella, oregano, and garlic. Everything was light, fresh, and delicious. The sign of excellent cooking is that each dish tatstes different and for one pizza, toppings aside, to have a distinctive taste is an accomplishment unto itself. The salad was OK and the white chocolate with hazelnut soft serve was a bit chalky. And all the portions, including the pizza where large for an individual. There is an extensive wine list and everyone in the place was gregarious and pleasant. It is on East 12th Street betwen First and Second. There are only 30 some-odd seats and they do not take reservations but do accept credit cards. Thank you again Ekscrunchy, |
Adu, is it a place teenagers would like or more specialty. I have one who will eat anything and 2 that think fast food is fine dining, lol. I'd like to try Motorino one day this week but don't know if I should do it with or without the teens.

If the kids like pizza, they will like the place. The pies after lunch run $9-17 and there are about 6 appetizers.
|
Thanks! The kids do love pizza. I didn't get a chance to look up what Ekscrunchy said, so I wasn't sure what kind of place. I'll have to make it in for lunch one day next week!

No offense meant, mp. I did read your earlier posting but I get so much info off of this site I can't always remember where or if I've seen it before! I saw Aduchamp1's post because it was a new topic and he is a poster whose opinion I trust, again, no offense to anyone else. And btw, I happen to love chopped liver so if you feel that way, take it as a compliment, lol! Happy Holidays!!
|
No MP, I like chopped liver.
Sorry for the exclusion. (I cannot recall how many times I would mention some thing or other and someone would thank or cite another poster.) I apologize for slicing you off. |
You LIKE chopped liver . . .. are you IMPLYING you DON'T like me?
Why does everything come out like a borscht belt joke today? No offense taken, I'm just teasing . . I'd love to hear your opinion of Co - which I like better than Motorino - but co is more convenient to me, and we like to go early when it's not so crowded, and the pizza comes out fast and furious . . . And in terms of the US, IMHO both are beaten by Pizza Bianco, in Phoenix. In know, Phoenix???? Bu Chris Bianco is actually from the Bronx, and his pizza is really incredible - the airiest, most flavorful crust and fantastic, simple toppings. Really really good. Almost worth a trip to Phoenix. |
I will gladly give you my review of Phoenix which comes in a poor second to chopped liver. I have not, however, eaten at Pizza Bianco.

Adu: You lucky man, you!
Let me be perhaps the first to bring you the good news: Michael White, my favorite NYC chef, is opening a pizza place in your neck of the woods! Next spring! http://dinersjournal.blogs.nytimes.c...lage-pizzeria/ |
Thanks and we will be Phoenix next month and Pizza Bianco is on our list of things tto do.

Rob and I also had the great pizza at Motorino's a couple of weeks ago when we were visiting the Big Apple, and it was as good as anything I have had since being in Florence, Italy.
They built their own, authentic styled brick oven, and use the best ingredients, the San Marzano tomatoes and the "buffalo" Mozzerella for the Margherita pizza, and very tasty/nicely spiced Soppressata sausage for the meat pie. |
BTW - they don't include the soft ice cream cone in the lunch special anymore.

A new trend in posting it would seem :-)

Starrs
Could you let the rest of us in on your comment? |
Sure! :-)
http://www.fodors.com/community/unit...-for-pizza.cfm http://www.fodors.com/community/unit...m#last-comment Just wondering if ^^^ is a new trend in posting. "Hey, Poster X, you and Poster Y are right/absolutely correct that Restaurant Z was good." Worth a chuckle in any case ;) |
