Edward Hopper Exhibit: Did you see/do you plan to see in Boston, Washington, or Chicago?

Wife, three teenaged kids, and I saw the Edward Hopper exhibit in Boston in June and thought it was simply fantastic. That includes the two of our three who really aren't much into art. The exhibition had almost all of our Hopper favorites except "Gas" and "Rooms by the Sea," but I understand one or both may be in Washington or Chicago.

We HIGHLY recommend this show. Almost sure you'll enjoy it, regardless of your level of interest in art.

It was great, but I found myself wishing I could wander around and look at the amazing paintings w/o the throngs of all the people who were there. What bliss that would have been!! But how wonderful it was to see them (almost)all of them in one place.

Yes, I'm going when the exhibit comes to the Art Institute in Chicago.

For those traveling to Chicago in the upcoming months, the Art Institute will be having the "American Perspectives" event, starting at the end of this month and continuing until June 2008. The event is a cooperative effort of the Art Institute, the Chicago Symphony and the Poetry Foundation.

In addition to this exhibit, there are several others, including the works of Winslow Homer and Jasper Johns, and there are many exhibits, concerts, lectures, readings and the like.

Take a look at the Art Institute's website and click on the "American Perspectives" area. Following pages have hyperlinks for additional information.

I saw this wonderful exhibit at the MFA in Boston. We got tickets for the last time slot on a Saturday p.m. It was a little crowded at the beginning but the crowds thinned out and we were able to wander through and enjoy the paintings without it being too packed with people. The exhibit is extremely well done with good explanations of the various periods of his paintings.

And, of course, those of us who are lucky enough to live near Washington D.C. can see this exhibit for free.

TKT - the NGA website says that passes will not be required for the Hopper exhibit.

I will definitely plan to go again if I'm in the D.C. area during the exhibition.
