Edison Hotel or Holiday Inn Express manhattan midtown w
I just booked the holiday inn last night and I heard this morning of friends who stayed at edison hotel and really liked it. Address for holiday inn is 538 W 48 St and edison is at 228 W 47 St. Is one place better in terms of location for walking etc.?

I've stayed at the Edison Hotel before, it was a great experience so I'd say go with Edison.

I have stayed at the Edison several times, twice in the last 2 yrs. It is an older art deco style hotel, Esp. the lobby and elevator panels. Most Rooms have undergone a refurbish in the last few yrs., get an updated rm. There is an old style diner in the hotel, open 24/7, which is great. And the best part is the awesome Rum House bar that has an entrance from the hotel lobby. That place is great, small and intimate, great old bar to belly up to, cool retro cocktails, and excellent live music with i cover every night. even when I stay somewhere else, I go to that bar for music. It's fantastic and unlike anyother music bar in NYC. Have met some very nice people in there, makes for interesting conversation.
I really like the Edison. My guess is that it has a lot more character than the Holiday Inn Express. |
Great corned beef hash in the cafe.

I like the Edison, and it's a much more central location. However the Holiday Inn Express is almost brand new, so you just have to weigh the pros and cons.

I think the much better address of the Edison (HIE is on the FAR west side) gives it a huge advantage.

Thanks so much for your responses. I just changed my reservation to the Edison.

This is a blast from the past!! DH's grandfather stayed at the Edison in 20's when he would come to NYC to buy for his store!!
We might have to give it a try. |
My father used to stay at the Edison in the 50s when in NY buying clothes for his women's store. Paramount hotel too.

The Edison is a classic old Art Deco hotel. And it still gives pleasant service at the front desk, a pleasant stay, that old time 24/7 diner, and the Rum Bar. IMO, you can not do better for the price point in the
Times Square area, unless there is a really good deal on travelzoo.com in the area at another comparable hotel. There are only a couple of old Art Deco hotels like this one left in NYC... |
Nothing to add except I stayed at the Edison in 1981. As a 16 year old it was fun and we loved the diner.

Cuteoldgal, are you checking your thread here or not? If so, are you going to stay at the Edison? Because if you going to, I have some very good discount info for you re the Edison.
|
emd3, what is your good discount info? For a cheap enough rate, I'd go to NYC soon :).
