Edgewater in Naples

What do know about the Edgewater Hotel in Naples? Where else would you suggest to stay in Naples. I would like beachfront.

If you want in the heart of Naples itself (which is where all the "hot" restaurants, bars, and shopping are) then the Edgewater is your best bet on the beach. The only other choice in Naples is the Naples Beach Hotel and Golf resort, just a couple blocks down from the Edgewater, much larger and with a real mixture of room types. Other than those two, the others are all condos or private homes. Of course, if you want to stay out from downtown, The Ritz Carlton or the Registry Resort are your next two choices. But the Edgewater is really very nice and much smaller that the big resorts. Their "rooftop" restaurant is very nice and open only to guests and to a few "private members". Fortunately clients of mine take me there fairly often and it is a very nice place for dinner.

Patrick,
Is it safe to assume if one stays at the Edgewater, they will be within "walking distance" of downtown Naples?
This Olde Naples vs. Naples has me a bit confused....

Patrick Feb 12th, 2002 08:00 AM

No, I would not call it walking distance. It is roughly 25 blocks to the edge of the 5th Avenue South area of restaurants -- about 10 blocks further to the 3rd Street South area. You can walk, but it is quite a hike. Olde Naples is the term often used for "downtown" Naples -- the area including 5th Ave. South and 3rd St. South. There is a "trolley" about every 45 minutes during the day, but none at night.
I just posted on another Naples question the other day very similar to this about the Edgewater in which I included some parking ideas. I'll try to top it for you. Will you have a car or not?

Jenni Feb 12th, 2002 05:50 PM

Patrick: Hi again, I found this above reply also!
Yes, we will be renting a car for our stay. Definitely want to explore the Corkscrew Sanctuary like you have suggested.
Would love to rent some bikes. Is this a possibility?
Many thanks, Jenni

Did you ever stay at the Edgewater. I'm considering it for a short business trip. The price seems the best for a beach front property but it looks kinda like an old Florida hotel. LaPlaya's rooms look so much nicer but for 4 people it's hard to get a good price. Registry has a beautiful photo of the pool area but I can't tell if the rooms are going to be old and musty. Ritz I can't find anything under $150. If anyone has an idea for getting a room for 4 at one of these beachfront hotels for $125 or under please advise. I've checked expedia, travelocity, orbitz and the initial price looks good but goes up when I specify room for 4.
