Eden House, Key West -- Any Good?
 

Does anyone have a recent opinion of the Eden House, good or bad? Thanks.

Ruth: <BR> <BR>I stayed at the Eden House Jan 2000 for three days. It is a wonderful guesthouse. Excellent distance from everything in Old Town Key West (I think 3 blocks from Duval) They are very accomadating with everything and friendly as well as reasonably priced. What I really liked is that we had the small hotel/guesthouse feeling but we were free to come and go at all hours (and not feel like we were staying at someones house and might wake them up) <BR> <BR>They have a freshwater pool (which is a must in Key West) and they have recently added a small waterfall to the pool. <BR> <BR>We will once again be staying there this Jan for our annual vacation. Thanks, Sheli, yours is just the kind of fresh insight I was looking for. However, since posting this message, I got an e-mail from Eden House stating they need a 50% deposit in cash at the time of making a reservation!!! Were you required to provide this in January? Am I being naive, or isn't that a little outrageous? <BR> <BR>BTW, I am also considering the Seascape Inn, so if anyone's familiar with that place, I'd love to hear about it.

Ruth: <BR> <BR>Yes, they do require a deposit. They requested one last year and this year as well. They need to be in receipt of the check/money order 7 days from the day you call or email them with the reservation. Then they will mail you a postcard with your reservation confirmation. <BR> <BR>I don't know if other places (guesthouses, B&B's) in Key West do that (other B&B's I've stayed in across the country have required at least the first night's deposit to hold the reservation). <BR> <BR>I do not know about the Seascape Inn. <BR> <BR>Hope this helps. <BR> <BR>Sheli <BR> <BR>

Again, thanks, Sheli. You are right, most B&Bs ask for a one-night deposit, but not 50%. I don't see how they justify it.

we've been to Eden House twice and really liked it. Very laid back; nice pool; good location in the Old Town

Thanks Joanne and everyone. I've heard basically all good things about the Eden House, but I just couldn't accept the idea of a 50% cash deposit, so I made a reservation at Ambrosia House...what do the Key West fans think of that one?

Are you talking about the Seascape Inn at Marathon? If so, friends of mine stayed at the place and raved about it. One of the owners is an artist and has done it over tastefully. Also, they do not allow children under a certain age and have nightly wine and cheese parties.

Yes, George, that sounds exactly like the Seascape I was looking at, but it's in Key West, not Marathon. Is there one in Marathon I don't know about??

Ambrosia and Ambrosia Too both get good reviews.
