Eden House in Key West

Planning a trip to Naples and a ferry/overnight to Key West. Thinking of staying at Eden House for one night. Three women traveling together and Eden has good rates for roomy accommodations. Has anyone stayed here? Thank you for your comments.

In the event you do not get a response here from someone who has actually stayed at Eden House, www.tripadvisor.com is a really good source of hotel reviews. Have a nice time, I'm jealous!

My husband and I stayed at the Eden House in Key West in November 2002. We stayed in the main building, second floor, room at the far end past the pool. The room was MINISCULE. In fact, we stayed in larger hotel rooms in Paris last spring -- no small feat (no pun intended!).

There was no closet, only an ad-hoc plywood shelving unit where we hoisted and stashed our suitcases. We had just come from Miami for the 2nd half of a weeks's vacation, and we had a very difficult time storing 3 small suitcases in our room.

The bathroom was insanely small. Walk in, squat to go to the toilet or take one step into the shower. The sink was in the main room by the bed.

Now, aside from the little teeny weeny room (which we thought was overpriced for the lack of square footage!), the Eden House is a beautiful, quaint place to stay. The grounds are lush, the pool is kept up well, and the staff were very kind and accommodating. You can rent bicycles from the front desk and ride them all over the island.

The Eden House is NOT near Duval Street, in case you were hoping for that. It took us about 10-15 minutes to walk back and forth from Duval St. to the Eden House. Most nights that was a good thing to wear off the buzz gained on Duval St.

If you're expecting luxury, you won't find it at Eden House. But it is a nice little inn, once you step outside your room.

I stayed with two other women at Eden House last April; it was awesome. The day we checked out we hung at the pool all day, and showered before leaving to board the ferry back to Marco at 5:30. The place is just the best.

Johanna - With all due respect (and I realize this post is a year old), I think many of tripadvisor's recommendations are ridiculous. As an example, the Nassau House in Key West has just been named the top B&B in the WORLD by tripadvisor!!! I don't know anyone who lives in Key West who'd rate it among the top tier of options, and I'm not sure it'd be among the middle tier either.

Same is true of Eden House. It gets raves on tripadvisor, but that's pretty much the only place.

My wife and I happened to stay in this place last year, although briefly.
It's far from Duval however that wasn't the reason why we didn't like it, nor it was the size of the rooms. We just didn't like the ambience, and to some extent the management.
Although we are liberal, the place was all too freewheeling. I mean, you have people liking this, yet there was too much of it, and the place was somewhat shabby.
Following the inn's policy, we made a 50% downpayment to book, and they told us that we could cancel at any time if we didn't like the place. Yet when we asked reimbursement as we were not happy and we wanted to leave, we had long discussions with them before we had our money back, and left.
My suggestion is that there are better places at Key West.
