Ecology for teens near Williamsburg

We need help finding a change of scene.
Our son & family are joining us at Williamsburg for a timeshare week in March. We've all been there/done that so there is more of a chore aspect to this than is good for family ties.
Our 13 yo g'daughter is much into ecology. Please help.

There's what my friends' kids call The Fish Museum in Virginia Beach (really, The Virginia Aquarium and Marine Science Center):

They do boat excursions, and you can book up-close visits with the animals.

Thanks NewbE. She's a real get into the tide-pool kid. I'll call on the Center for more thoughts -n.

The Virginia Beach Aquarium is wonderful but you won't have to go that far. There are other possibilities closer to Williamsburg.

York River State Park is only 15 min away.

Newport News City Park is 20 min away.

Both of these parks have nature trails and small discovery museums. They also offer ranger-led walks throughout the year. You may want to check to see if any will be scheduled during your trip.

The Virginia Living Museum is 45 min away. It's a wonderful museum focusing on animals and the natural world in Virginia.

They have a family canoe trip scheduled for March 20 if you'll be here then.

If you're touring the campus of William and Mary, you might want to look at the Woody Plants tour at this link:

It sounds like you know Williamsburg well but if you need more advice, let us know.

I appreciate these several hints, and will review all with my son's family.
I don't know Williamsburg well myself. We'll be there March 20 or 21 to 26. It seems to be a between-seasons time with fewer scheduled events, so all suggestions appreciated!
