eating in Savannah and Charleston

We are staying 2 nights in Charleston and 1 in Savannah.
2 adults and 2 kids.
I need suggestions where to eat for breakfasts, lunches, and dinners. I think we are staying at the Mills House Hotel in Charleston and the new Radisson in Savannah.
I need don't miss places. I do not like seafood, but everyone else does, so maybe ideas for me and them. I would like to watch money, but will spend it if it is worth it.

In Savannah, I would recommend Lady & Sons. It's a buffet of the best southern food on earth. They serve lunch and dinner. Check out their website. Make sure to make a reservation, it is a very popular place. For seafood, I would recommend the Crab Shack. It is on Tybee Island. The food is good and the atmosphere is lots of fun. Sorry I can't help you on Charleston.

We ate at a number of places in Charleston gleaned from Fodorite recommendations, including the dread Hyman's, Garibaldi?s, Jestine?s, Bubba?s Shrimp Factory, and Poogan?s Porch for breakfast twice. Our favorite, though, was Suzanne?s out at Folly Beach. It looks like a dump on the outside but is a white tablecloth restaurant inside, and the food was wonderful. Like in Key West last year, I tried to sample everyone?s key lime pie. Suzanne?s won.

Hyman's is noted as a tourist place, but we thought it was fun. Didn't care for Jestine's. You might like to try Garibaldi's; it is an Italian restaurant, but their crispy flounder comes highly recommended.

Mrs. Wilkes was fun but long lines. They are open again!
Lady and Sons was GREAT!!! We even got the cookbook and have tried some recipes. They came out good.
We also enjoyed the Casbah. Not southern but lots of fun. Check out their website. They also have a belly dancer.
The Breakfast club on Tybee was Also VERY good and lots of fun if you sit at the counter. Also... go to their website.

The current issue of Wine Spectator Magazine has a good article on Charleston restaurants.
Also in Charleston Magnolia's is one of my longtime favorites. Lady and Sons in Savannah does a good job with Southern food, plus I think it would be a place the kids would enjoy.

I think the best place in Charleston is McCrady's on Unity Alley. It's right off E. Bay. Their wine list is amazing, as is the new wine bar. They also have a range of items on the menu. I don't know how old your kids are but it is not what I would call "child friendly." While they are certainly welcome, it might be a bit too grownup for younger children. They might enjoy The Wreck in Mount Pleasant a bit more -- it's hard to find and a bit pricey but the food is good and it's very casual. Also think about Boulevard Diner in Mount Pleasant for lunch on the way to the beach. They have the best collard greens in SC. Hominy Grill is a great lunch/brunch place. Try the local Charleston paper -- postandcourier.com (I think) -- they just put out their best of Charleston supplement. I would avoid Shem Creek -- very touristy and terrible food. I also think Carolina's is over priced and over rated.
